1800 S-199 R4 G6+
. Very slightly sharper with extremely
faint roughness well hidden under attractive glossy dark olive
brown toning. No verdigris, and the only marks are two tiny
intersecting nicks on the cheek and a larger dull nick in the cen-
ter of the reverse. MDS, Breen state VI, with a small cud break
at the top of the F in OF and significant swelling that weakens
the central details on the reverse. The date and legends outside
the wreath are strong. Nice for the grade, close to VG7.

1800 S-199 R4 G5
. Off Center. Several points sharper but
lightly corroded, strongest in the fields and protected areas. No
marks or verdigris. The toning is a rather glossy light chocolate
brown on the devices and darker olive brown in the fields and
protected areas. The two-tone appearance accents the devices
and the eye appeal of this cent is decent in spite of the rough-
ness. MDS, Breen state IV, with a tiny cud break in the dentils
over the F in OF (this cud would not show if the strike was cen-
tered on the planchet). Struck at least 5% off center to K-10
leaving some letters of the legend tight against the edge of the
planchet. The date is strong and the legends are clear.
Estimated Value .......................................................$100-UP

1800 S-202 R4+ G5
. Sharpness VF20 but covered with uni-
form light to moderate roughness under slightly glossy dark
olive brown toning. No verdigris, and the only mark of any sig-
nificance is a short dig in the field before the neck. MDS, Breen
state II late. The die failure on the obverse is strong and swell-
ing nearly obliterates STATES. Otherwise the date and legends
are complete and clear. Looks better than the net grade might
imply.
Estimated Value .......................................................$150-UP

. Includes 1800 S-202 R4+

net G4 for light corrosion, and 1803 S-243 R2 Stemless Wreath

Estimated Value .......................................................$150-UP

1800 S-205 R4 VF20+
. Sharpness VF30 but there are some
light contact marks scattered over the planchet. The notable
ones are a dull vertical nick in the hair under the B in LIBERTY, a
minor rim bruise left of the lowest curl, several small pinpricks
on the bust, and a few more in the space right of the second S
in STATES. Mostly glossy dark steel brown and light olive. MDS,
Breen state II. The horizontal die crack from the middle curls is
clear but it appears to fade out before reaching the rim, and the
die clashmarks in the field before the neck are clear.
Removed
from an ANACS slab graded VF30
(ANACS label #4140736
included).
Estimated Value .......................................................$400-UP
370
1800 S-207 R3 VG10
. Slightly sharper but there are areas of
fine roughness on both sides, strongest at S-OF. Both sides
show a few contact marks, including an obvious rim nick
between the 8 & 0 in the date and a dull nick on the D in
UNITED. Rather glossy medium to dark chocolate brown and
steel with lighter steel brown toning on the reverse devices.
MDS, Breen state III, with a die crack from the top of the sec-
ond 0 in the denominator to the right end of the fraction bar.
The shallow cud break that connects the first 0 in the denomi-
nator to the rim below is faint.
Estimated Value .......................................................$150-UP
371
1800 NC-3 R6- NGC graded VG Details, Damaged
. Mostly
glossy dark chocolate brown and steel. The devices are smooth
but there is shallow roughness in the fields and protected areas,
strongest in the field before the portrait. In addition there are
numerous dull, shallow scratches around the date and parts of
the legend outside the wreath. The date and legends are com-
plete and clear, and the diagnostic spike up from the top of the
I in AMERICA is obvious.
Our grade is G6+ sharpness net
G4.
