nice cent for the grade.

. Frosty medium choco-
late brown and steel mottled with some lighter brown tones on
the reverse. Satiny mint luster covers the protected areas on
both sides. The only defects are a dull nick in the dentils at star
9, a very light rim bruise at the first A in AMERICA, a small plan-
chet flake over the E in UNITED (as struck), and a trace of shal-
low verdigris nestled between the end of the wreath ribbon and
the leaf above. E-MDS, Breen state II, with die clashmarks
inside the wreath.

1810 S-285 R2 Turban Head EF40
. Sharpness AU50 but
lightly cleaned and retoned. The toning is a bit darker than you
like to see at this grade level and there are a half dozen small
splashes of reddish toning on the reverse. Glossy medium steel
and olive brown with light bluish steel overtones. Flowline luster
covers the fields and protected areas on both sides. The notable
marks are a spot of reddish chocolate toning over the O in ONE
and another between the C & E in CENT, and both of these
spots contain traces of microscopic roughness. M-LDS, Breen
state III, with strong die clashmarks right of ONE CENT.
Estimated Value .................................................... $2,500-UP

the devices and darker olive brown in the fields and protected
areas. The surfaces are decent but not perfectly smooth. No
marks or verdigris. Decent eye appeal for the grade. E-MDS.
The date and legends are strong and the overdate is visible to
the unaided eye.

1812 S-288 R2 Turban Head, Large Date EF40
. Five
points sharper but the toning is a bit darker than you like to see
at this grade level. Frosty uniform olive and dark steel brown.
Attractive and virtually flawless. No spots or stains, and the only
mark is a tiny pinprick in the field off the upper right point of
star 2. Nicely struck MDS, Breen state II, with die clashmarks
inside the wreath and the rim flowing into the top of the legend
on the upper part of the reverse. A very attractive Turban Head
cent.
Estimated Value .................................................... $2,500-UP
444
1812 S-289 R1 Turban Head, Large Date VF35
. Glossy
olive brown and steel. Frosty flowline luster covers the fields
and protected areas on both sides. The only marks are a tiny,
very shallow pit in the field above the head and a pair of faint
hairline scratches on the bust tip. LDS, Breen state IV. Flowlines
draw the outer points of the stars to the rim and the tops of
STATES OF are joined to the rim as well. An attractive example.
Removed from a PCGS slab graded XF40
(PCGS label
#1561.40/21492323 included, and it incorrectly states this is a
"Small Date" variety).
Estimated Value .................................................... $1,500-UP
