1819 N-6 R1 EF45+
. Sharpness at least AU50 and it appears
to be mint state to the unaided eye, but there are two dull hori-
zontal scratches under the wreath ribbon. Otherwise a small
spot of darker toning in the field off the chin is the only mark.
Frosty steel brown and chocolate with underlying very faded red
showing through in the protected areas on both sides. Nicely
struck E-MDS. Very attractive in spite of the scratches.
Estimated Value .......................................................$250-UP

. Glossy
chocolate brown with areas of lighter brown toning near the
dentils on both sides. Traces of flowline luster remain visible in
protected areas on the reverse. The notable marks are a thin
diagonal nick between stars 10 & 11, a small nick in the dentils
under the left edge of the 8, and a spot of fine carbon on two
dentils at the bottom of the reverse. MDS with a fine die crack
from the bust tip to star 1 and the center dot on the reverse still
visible.
Our grade is VF20+.

1820 N-8 R3 Small Date EF45
. Glossy light greenish olive
brown with traces of frosty lighter steel brown toning in pro-
tected areas on the obverse and overtones of sea-green on
both sides. Possibly lightly cleaned and retoned long ago but
the eye appeal of this piece is excellent. The only mark is a dull,
very light rim nick at star 5. Sharply struck E-MDS. The dentils
are sharp and the partial inner circle at the dentil tips reaches
star 7.
Estimated Value .......................................................$800-UP
474
1820 N-10 R2 Large Date AU58
. A mint state cent that was
very lightly cleaned and has retoned frosty bluish steel brown
and reddish tan. The only marks are a thin vertical nick in the
field before the nose and a tiny planchet flake right of star 4.
Sharply struck MDS. The center dot on the reverse is gone but
the small dash between the F in OF and adjacent A is still clear.
This cent offers excellent eye appeal in spite of the retoning.
Estimated Value .......................................................$600-UP
