late. The notable marks are a spot of slightly darker reddish
chocolate toning on the truncation near the lowest curl, a pit at
the top of the E in ONE, and a small patch of fine verdigris at
the dentils under the stem tip. EDS, before any die cracks.

1828 N-11 R2 EF45+
. Frosty medium chocolate brown and
steel. Satiny mint luster covers the protected areas on both
sides and this cent offers outstanding eye appeal. Very close to
AU50. The only defect is a dull, shallow rim nick at star 13. LDS.
Die wear and lapping have removed all traces of the stray S
right of the D in UNITED and the similarly misplaced O right of
the second S in STATES.
Removed from an NGC slab
graded AU58
(NGC label #308013-019 included, and it shows
the attribution and Reiver provenance).

1829 N-6 R1 Large Letters PCGS graded MS65
Brown,
CAC APPROVED
. Highly lustrous bluish steel
brown and light chocolate. Satiny mint frost covers every-
thing, even the highest points on the devices, giving this
cent exceptional eye appeal. The obverse is virtually flaw-
less, the only defects being a very faint spot between stars
2 & 3 and another under star 4. The reverse would be flaw-
less except for a spot of darker toning between the tops of
the E & S in STATES and another between the R & I in
AMERICA, plus a couple tiny specks elsewhere on that side.
Very sharply struck E-MDS showing complete radials on all
the stars and full veins on all the leaves. A premium exam-
ple of the date, clearly in the condition census for the busi-
ness strikes of this variety.
Our grade is MS63+, very
close to MS64.
The attribution is shown on the PCGS
label.
Estimated Value .............................................. $7,500-UP
497
1829 N-7 R3 Large Letters F15+
. Choice glossy light to
medium chocolate brown. No roughness or verdigris, only a few
light contact marks. The notable ones are a couple dull rim
nicks at star 10, a light rim bruise over AT in STATES, and a dull
rim nick at the M in AMERICA. Nicely struck M-LDS with 4 radial
die cracks on the reverse (the "Wheelspoke" variety of 1829).
Although the variety often comes poorly struck, the devices are
fully impressed on both sides of this example.
Estimated Value .......................................................$300-UP
