1834 N-2 R1 Small Date, Large Stars NGC graded AU
details, Improperly Cleaned
. Bold Double Profile. Frosty
light steel brown and tan. Satiny mint luster covers the pro-
tected areas. Lightly cleaned and retoned but the eye appeal is
nice. No spots or stains, only light friction on the highpoints.
The notable defect is a patch of microscopic roughness over the
N in ONE, and this area has been smoothed. E-MDS with strong
vertical "spikes" up from the dentil tips under the date to star 1
and a fine die crack from the left foot of the first A in AMERICA
to the leaf below. This fine crack is in addition to the always-
present cracks on both sides. The dominant feature on this cent
is a very bold double profile from the forelock down to the chin
caused by die bounce. In fact there is a third very fine profile
visible in parts of the double profile. A neat cent.
Our grade is
AU50 sharpness net EF40.

1834 N-6 R3 Large 8, Stars, & Letters VF35
. Sharper by at
least 5 points but there are two dull, shallow scratches on the
neck. Fortunately these scratches blend nicely into the attrac-
tive glossy dark chocolate brown toning and they do not catch
your eye. Otherwise the surfaces are choice. EDS.

1835 N-2 R3 Head of 1834 VF30+
. Glossy medium brown
and light reddish chocolate with steel brown toning on the high-
points. Traces of frosty luster remain visible in protected areas
on both sides. There is a small arc of very fine granularity
between star 4 and the dentils, a spot of crud between star 13
and the dentils, and a couple spots of fine verdigris at STA.
Overall the eye appeal of this cent is quite nice. MDS. The
repunching on the U in UNITED is visible. A fine double profile
(from die bounce) shows on the lips, chin, and neck.

ter covers the protected areas on both sides. E-MDS with fine
die flowlines on both sides and the usual die crack through the
top of UNITED to the dentils beyond both ends.

numerous tiny contact marks, the only notable ones being
