1843 N-9 R3 Petite Head, Small Letters, Repunched 843

. Glossy medium chocolate and olive brown. Frosty mint
luster covers the protected areas on both sides. No spots or
roughness, only minor contact marks. A thin diagonal nick over
star 9 is the best identifying mark. LDS, die state c, with a
clearly defined rim cud break from star 6 to star 7 and another
at star 11. The repunching on the 843 is dull but remains visi-
ble.

MS63 Brown
. Repunched 84. Lustrous medium brown and
steel with traces of faded mint red showing on both sides.
Nicely struck and quite attractive. No spots, stains, or notable
contact marks, but there is a hint of friction on the highest
points of the devices. A small nearly vertical nick hidden on the
end of the wreath stem is the best identifying mark. EDS, die
state a. Both dies are uncracked and the die lines over TAT in
STATES are sharp. The narrow repunching on the 84 is clear.

in STATES. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate mixed
with small splashes of reddish chocolate toning on both sides.

UNITED.

. Ten
points sharper but recolored glossy medium brown and
light chocolate with faded red in protected areas. No spots
or stains, but there are some light contact marks on both
sides, including a rim nick at the first A in AMERICA. Semi-
unique latest known die state with a small but clearly
defined rim cud break over the T in UNITED to the left edge
of the adjacent E. This latest cud is in addition to the earlier
ones from under the end of the wreath ribbon clockwise to
over UNIT (state e). This new die state has been desig-
nated state f. It was discovered at the 2013 ANA Conven-
tion and two examples are now known. This is the
discovery coin.

points sharper but very nicely recolored glossy medium choco-
late brown. This cent offers excellent eye appeal. The only
marks are a small rim bruise and rim nick at NI in UNITED. EDS,
die state a. Comes with a nice provenance.

. Steel brown
and chocolate blending to dark chocolate in protected areas.
The surfaces are a bit dull thanks to microscopic roughness, but
there is no verdigris. The only notable mark is a small planchet
chip on the nose before the eye.
Our grade is VG10 sharp-
ness net VG7.
The rarest business strike variety for the year.

. Frosty light steel brown
with lighter brown and golden tan toning covering the fields and
protected areas. The only mark of any significance is a dull pin-
prick under the right foot of the first A in AMERICA. M-LDS, die
state d, with a die crack from the U in UNITED to a dentil off the
tip of the wreath ribbon. The repunching at the base of the 1 is
still visible.
Removed from an NGC slab graded MS62BN
(NGC label #3569749-007 included).
