Large Cents
645 1847 N-3 R3 Repunched Date MS60. Lustrous steel brown
and light chocolate with faded mint red showing in protected
areas on the reverse. Very attractive, essentially flawless. The
only mark is a tiny planchet flake in the field right of star 4, as
struck. Rare terminal die state (TDS), die state f, with a series of
4 rim cud breaks on the reverse, and all of the cuds are strong.
Tied for CC#13 honors for the die variety and tied for CC#5 of
those known in the TDS according to the Grellman census. The
repunching on the date is gone, lapped off the die.

BEAUTIFUL 1847 N-4
646 1847 N-4 R3 Repunched 18 NGC graded MS64 Red
& Brown . Lustrous mint red fading to steel brown and
light olive with 20% of the red remaining on the obverse
and at least half of the mint color showing on the reverse.
A beautiful cent in every respect. The only marks are a tiny
planchet flake between the date and star 13 (as struck) and
some faint specks of slightly darker toning scattered over
the reverse, none notable. Sharply struck E-MDS, die state
b, with some faint die cracks through the top of the legend
outside the wreath (uncracked examples are quite rare).
The repunching on the 18 is sharp. Our grade is MS63+,
very close to MS64. CC#2 behind a marginally superior
example in the Grellman census.

647 1847 N-5 R3+ Repunched 84 EF40. Five points sharper but
there is a light scratch from star 1 to the chin, then weakly up
across the lips to the nose. Otherwise this cent is quite nice,
nearly flawless. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with
frost in protected areas. EDS, die state a, with an uncracked
reverse. The repunching on the 8 & 4 is clear, strongest on the

MDS (b), N-14 R3 LDS (d), and N-24 R1 EDS (a) AU50 sharp-
ness net VF30 for microscopic roughness. Lot of 3 coins.

649 1847 N-7 R2+ EF40. Sharper by at least 5 points but lightly
burnished and retoned glossy steel brown and light chocolate
with slightly lighter toning on the highpoints of the obverse.
Just a few light contact marks, including a short, light diagonal
scratch in the field before the chin and a very light rim nick at
star 3. Rare M-LDS, die state b, with a strong rim cud at star 1.
CC#4 of those known with the single rim cud in the Grellman
census.

650 1847 N-7 R2+ AU50. Mint state sharpness but some fool
smoothed off most of the rim cud that reaches from under the
18 to star 1. Otherwise this cent is essentially flawless except
for a small patch of microscopic roughness between the U in
UNITED and the end of the wreath ribbon. Lustrous medium
steel brown and light chocolate. Satiny mint frost covers the
planchet and this cent offers excellent eye appeal in spite of the
smoothed area on the rim. M-LDS, die state c, with the rim cud
below the 18 to star 1. Tied for CC#11 in the Grellman census
for the die state. Removed from an ANACS slab graded
MS60 Details, Rim Filed (ANACS label #2931309 included).

651 1847 N-7 R2+ VF30. Sharpness AU50 but covered with uni-
form very fine granularity. No verdigris and the only contact
mark is a small, light rim bruise on the rim cud at star 1. Slightly
glossy medium chocolate brown. Very rare TDS, die state e,
with strong rim cud breaks from 18 to star 1, star 2 to star 3,
and from star 11 to star 12. All three of the cud breaks are bold.
Tied for CC#4 of those known in the terminal die state.
