1848 N-1 R1 Repunched 184 PCGS graded MS63 Brown
.
Attractive glossy light to medium chocolate brown with traces of
very faded mint red in a few of the protected areas on both
sides. No spots or stains, only a few very light contact marks on
the jaw and neck, none notable. MDS die state b. Die polishing
has removed most of the repunching from the 18 but it is still
clearly visible on the 4. The fields are smooth and slightly reflec-
tive.
Our grade is AU58, just a hint of friction on the
highest points from mint state.
The PCGS label indicates
the die variety is N-13, but that is incorrect.

1848 N-1 R1 Repunched 184 MS60+
. Glossy steel and
medium chocolate brown with traces of mint red on the obverse
while 15% of the reverse shows mint color. Smooth and very
attractive. No spots or stains, only a few microscopic contact
marks including two ticks on the eyebrow and a tiny diagonal
nick in the field off the chin. MDS, die state b. Traces of
repunching are still visible on the 18 and it remains clear on the
4. The fields on both sides are smooth and slightly reflective
thanks to a fresh die polishing. Tied for CC#4 in the Grellman
census.

1848 N-3 R2 Repunched Date EF45
. Five points sharper
but there is a dull nick between stars 10 & 11 and a few tiny
ticks off the tip of the chin. Otherwise this cent is choice and
offers excellent eye appeal. Frosty light steel brown with slightly
darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. LDS, die state c.
Repunching is still visible on all 4 digits of the date but the fine
die lines of the early state are gone.

slab graded AU58
(PCGS label #1883.58/21077646
included).
