. Five points sharper but there is a rim
nick over star 9, another at the E in UNITED, and a third over
the E in AMERICA. Otherwise this cent is very nice for the
grade. Glossy medium brown with slightly darker steel brown
toning on the highpoints. Rare LDS, die state c, with a single
rim cud break over ES in STATES. Not in the overall census for
the variety but tied for CC#9 among those known with the sin-
gle cud break in the Grellman census.

. Attractive frosty medium brown
and light chocolate. Satiny mint luster shows in the pro-
tected areas and tiny peeps of faded mint red remain visi-
ble on both sides. The only marks are a horizontal nick on
the cheek left of the ear and a less-visible thin vertical nick
just left of star 12. Sharply struck LDS, die state d, with two
small but strong rim cud breaks on the reverse: one at D-S
and another over the second S in STATES. One of only 2
known, and this is the discovery coin for the die state. This
cent is plated in the back of the 2001 edition of the Grell-
man book on late date large cents to illustrate the 2-cud die
state. Very nice for the grade, close to AU55. Noyes photo

. Attractive glossy light chocolate brown
blending to olive brown in protected areas. Smooth and free of
notable marks. TDS, die state e, with 3 rim cud breaks on the
reverse. The 2 cuds over TES are clearly defined but the one at
D-S is weak thanks in part to the strike being slightly off center
in that direction. Tied for CC#12 of those known in the terminal
die state.
