1847 N-12 R3 Repunched 8 EF40
. Nice glossy medium
chocolate brown. Smooth and attractive showing only trivial
contact marks, none notable. A choice cent if not for some loose
dirt in protected areas (a proper bath might be worth another 5
points). Rare TDS, state c late, with an additional thin rim cud
break from star 12 to star 13 in addition to the earlier strong
rim cud break at star 9.

1847 N-13 R4 VF35
. Glossy medium brown and light choco-
late. Smooth and attractive for the grade. The only notable
marks are a very light rim bruise between stars 2 & 3 and a dull
diagonal nick on the cheek under the eye. LDS, die state d, with
a small but strong rim cud break over the R in AMERICA.

1847 N-14 R3 MS60+
. Choice lustrous light steel brown and
tan. No spots, stains, or contact marks. The only identifying
mark is a small area of lighter golden tan toning around star 3.
M-LDS, die state c. The die lines from the dentils at star 1 are
weak but still visible and all the die cracks listed by Grellman are
present on the reverse. A very nice cent with excellent eye
appeal. Tied for CC#8 honors in the Grellman census.

Trio of 1847 Cents, all Scarce Varieties, grading VF30 to
VF35+
. Includes N-15 R4+ Repunched 7 EDS, N-27 R4
Repunched 1 EDS (a), and N-30 R4+ Repunched 1 MDS (b). A
couple are very slightly sharper with minor defects but all are
nice glossy brown and chocolate. Lot of 3 coins.

Pair of 1847 N-18 R5 Large 7 over Medium 7 grading
F15 to VF20
. One is EDS and the other is MDS, both die state
a before any rim cud breaks on the obverse. They are attractive
glossy brown and chocolate with smooth surfaces and only
minor contact marks. The repunching on the 847 is clear and
the "Large 7 over Medium 7" feature is obvious on both pieces.
Lot of 2 coins.

. Sharpness
VF20 but rather dull thanks to uniform fine roughness. No
marks or verdigris. Slightly glossy dark olive brown and steel
with lighter steel brown and chocolate toning on the highpoints.
Very rare LDS, die state d, with a clearly defined rim cud from
under the 1 to star 2 and a weak rim cud from star 4 to star 5.
The repunching (so-called Large 7 over Medium 7) at the top of
the 7 is visible.

1847 N-19 R1 Repunched 4 AU58
. A mint state cent that
has too many light contact marks on the face and neck for an
uncirculated grade. A thin vertical pre-striking planchet line on
the neck is the best identifying mark. Frosty light steel brown
with subtle overtones of light bluish steel in the fields and pro-
tected areas. About 5% of the original mint red remains visible,
mostly on the reverse, and an area of slightly darker steel ton-
ing is hidden in the curls right of the neck. EDS, die state a. The
die lines around ONE CENT are clear and the repunching on the
4 is obvious.

1847 N-21 R1 MS60
. The obverse is lustrous very faded red
blending to bluish steel and light olive; the reverse is highly lus-
trous bluish steel with faded mint red in protected areas. The
only notable mark is a spot of very fine carbon in the dentils at
star 13. M-LDS, die state b (Newcomb's old #40) with a die
crack through the tops of ME passing to the rim over the adja-
cent A and RI.
