1845 N-2 R1 AU55
. Very close to mint state sharpness but
the toning is a bit darker than you like to see on a high-grade
cent. The only marks are two tiny, barely visible ticks on the
jawline. Frosty dark chocolate brown and steel, the reverse a
few shades lighter than the obverse. Sharply struck EDS, die
state a. The lump over the N in ONE and the fine lines connect-
ing the second A in AMERICA to the leaf below are clear.

1845 N-4 R1 Repunched 5 PCGS graded MS64 Brown
.
Lustrous bluish steel and olive with areas of faded mint red
remaining in protected areas on both sides, especially on the
obverse. No spots or stains, only a few microscopic ticks of no
significance. A tiny nearly horizontal nick over the right side of
star 3 and a dull nick in the dentils even with the lower point of
star 11 are the only marks. MDS, die state c, with light die
cracks on the reverse. The repunching on the 5 remains sharp.
A choice cent if not for a bit of softness in the strike at the bot-
tom of the wreath.
Our grade is MS60.
The attribution is
shown on the PCGS label.

1845 N-4 R1 Repunched 5 AU55
. An attractive mint state
cent but there are several long diagonal nicks in the field off the
chin, and these nicks catch your eye. Otherwise the surfaces
are choice. Glossy chocolate and olive brown with satiny mint
frost covering the fields and protected areas. Traces of faded
mint red remain visible on both sides, mostly on the reverse.
Sharply struck MDS, die state c, with several fine die cracks on
the reverse. The repunching on the top of the 5 is clear.
Estimated Value .......................................................$100-UP

1845 N-4 R1 Repunched 5 EF45
. Five points sharper but
lightly cleaned and retoned light greenish olive and chocolate
brown. No distracting marks, only a few tiny ticks including a
pinprick under star 5. MDS, die state c, with fine die cracks on
the reverse. The fine repunching on the 5 is clear.

1845 N-5 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Brown
. Very attractive
lustrous light bluish steel brown and chocolate. A choice cent
except for a thin nick on the throat and a small swipe of reddish
brown toning between the C & E in CENT. Sharply struck E-
MDS, die state a. The fields are just starting to show micro-
scopic flowlines but there are no die cracks.
Our grade is
MS62,
tied for CC#9 in the Grellman census. The attribution is
shown on the PCGS label.

1845 N-6 R2 EF45+
. Sharpness AU50 but there are a few
small nicks on the neck. Otherwise this cent is smooth and
choice offering excellent eye appeal. Glossy light olive and steel
brown with traces of frosty lighter steel brown faded down from
mint red in protected areas on the reverse. Sharply struck MDS,
die state c early, with a fine line connecting the tip of the nose
to the upper lip and clear die clashmarks right of the E in ONE.
