. Choice glossy light to medium chocolate
brown with frosty luster in protected areas. Only a few trivial
contact marks including a light nick under star 5 and a faint
hairline scratch in the field right of the main curl. Sharply struck
EDS, die state a. Many fine die lines are visible on the reverse
and it is uncracked.

. Attractive glossy steel brown and light
chocolate. A very nice cent, just trivial contact marks from
choice including a few tiny nicks on the neck, a very small rim
nick over star 7, and a couple ticks near the berry over ON in
ONE. LDS, die state e, with several die cracks on the obverse,
but the section of rim between the cracks left of the 1 is just
starting to rise.

. Choice glossy medium brown and light
chocolate with mint frost showing in protected areas on both
sides. No spots, stains, or contact marks. Sharply struck E-MDS,
die state b, with light die cracks on the reverse and slightly
reflective fields on the obverse. A very nice example of this
tough variety. CC#11 in the Grellman census.

. Five points sharper with some light con-
tact marks on the obverse, none distracting. A pinprick between
the coronet and star 5 and a tiny rim nick at star 4 are good
identifying marks. Attractive glossy medium brown. M-LDS die
state d early. The die cracks on the reverse are clear and a small
chip has widened the crack through the left top of the M in
AMERICA.

. Mostly glossy dark olive brown and steel
with slightly lighter toning on the highpoints. No verdigris, only
scattered light contact marks consistent with the grade. Rare
LDS, die state e, with a shallow but clearly defined rim cud
break above the second S in STATES. In addition the section of
rim between two die cracks on the rim over the AM in AMERICA
is slightly sunken. Tied for CC#7 of 17 examples known in this
die state according to the Grellman census. Noyes photo

1847 N-24 R1 PCGS graded MS65 Brown
. Choice lus-
trous steel brown and chocolate with 10% of the mint color
remaining on the obverse, at least 25% on the reverse.
Essentially flawless in every respect offering outstanding
eye appeal. The only mark, and it is microscopic, is a tiny
tick on the tip of the coronet. M-LDS, die state c (New-
comb's old #25), with a die crack through the top of ME to
the dentils on both ends.
Our grade is MS63+, very
close to MS64.
The attribution is shown on the PCGS
label.

. Very attractive lustrous light bluish steel
and olive with 10% of the mint color remaining. The only nota-
ble mark is a small spot of darker toning over the upper right
point of star 12. Sharply struck EDS die state a, with myriad die
lines covering the obverse fields. Someone forgot to polish the
obverse die before placing it into service, but this oversight was
corrected for die state b. A very nice example of this interesting
die state and it comes with a decent provenance. Tied for CC#7
in the Grellman census.

. Frosty medium
brown and light chocolate with darker steel brown toning on the
highpoints. The only marks are a shallow planchet chip or void
on the chin and a couple tiny ticks on the throat plus a subtle
splash of slightly darker toning on star 3. Sharply struck EDS,
die state a. The obverse fields are covered with fine die finish-
ing lines, strongest around the date and behind the main curl.
Our grade is AU58+,
just a touch of rub on the highest points
from mint state.
