1830 N-1 R1 EF45
. Nice glossy chocolate brown and steel
with satiny mint frost covering the protected areas on both
sides. A very attractive cent for the grade and nearly flawless. A
barely visible rim bruise at the D in UNITED and another over
the O in OF are the only marks. MDS with a fine die crack arcing
from the dentils at star 1 through star 2 to the outer point of
star 3. The dentils are complete and free of crumbling around
both sides.

1830 N-10 R4+ NGC graded VF30
. Attractive glossy
medium chocolate brown with slightly lighter steel brown toning
on the devices. No spots, stains, or roughness, only light con-
tact marks scattered over both sides. A very dull nick between
the C & A in AMERICA can help identify this cent. EDS with a
light die crack through the top of ATES (even the earliest strikes
have this crack).
Our grade is F15.
The attribution and Reiver
provenance are shown on the NGC label.

1831 N-11 R2 Medium Reverse Letters VF25+
. Clipped
Planchet. Attractive glossy medium chocolate brown with
underlying frost in protected areas, especially on the reverse.
The only marks, and they are not at all significant, are a speck
of verdigris low on the neck and a minor rim bruise under the
first 1 in the date. Scarce TDS with a cud break at TES in
STATES, and the cud fills the top of the S. In addition there is a
small mint-made planchet clip that affects the dentils at star 9
and the opposing dentils over the C in AMERICA.

1831 N-14 R4 Large Reverse Letters AU50+
. Sharp-
ness near mint state with just a light touch of friction on
the highpoints, but there is a small patch of roughness
under star 1 and another at the right top of the E in ONE.
Otherwise this cent is free of defects. Lustrous medium
steel brown and light chocolate with traces of faded mint
red showing in protected areas on both sides. MDS. The
rim cud at star 9 is clear and fine radial die flowlines show
outside the wreath. A nice example of a scarce variety
that's difficult to find in high grade. A single mint state
example and only a very few graded AU are known placing
this piece high in the condition census.
