1852 N-10 R2+ PCGS graded MS62 Brown
. Glossy
medium brown and light chocolate with underlying lighter red-
dish brown toning in protected areas. Possibly lightly cleaned
long ago but the color and eye appeal are quite nice. A faint
speck of darker toning in the field off the tip of the coronet is a
good identifying mark, but it is visible only under strong magni-
fication. Sharply struck EDS, die state a, with short die lines
from the dentils at stars 1 & 2. Removed from an ICG slab
graded MS63BN (ICG label #1419983101 included).
Our grade
is MS60 sharpness net AU58 for the light cleaning.
Tied
for CC#10 in the Grellman census. The attribution is shown on
the PCGS label.

1852 N-11 R1 VF20
. Five points sharper but recolored glossy
greenish olive brown and steel with traces of light chocolate
brown toning on both sides. Smooth and nearly void of marks.
A small planchet flake at the base of the dentils right of star 11
is the only mark. Rare LDS, die state e, with a rim cud break
over TES-O. The margins of the cud are clearly defined on this
example. Removed from an NGC/NCS slab graded XF Details,
Improperly Cleaned (NCS label #5077440-040 included, and it
shows the attribution and Reiver provenance).

.
Lustrous steel brown with subtle overtones of light bluish steel.
Traces of faded mint color can be found in protected areas on
the reverse. Choice except for a splash of carbon on the curl
over the 2, a smaller spot of carbon on the cheek, and a half
dozen specks of carbon inside the wreath. LDS, die state c
(Newcomb's old #13). The repunching at the 18 is gone and a
die crack extends from the tip of the bust through star 1 to the
dentils at star 2.
Our grade is net MS60.

1852 N-12 R1 Repunched 18 NGC graded MS64 Brown
.
Lustrous tan and light olive with subtle overtones of light bluish
steel and peeps of faded mint color remaining on the reverse.
There is a small spot of very fine carbon in the hair over the T in
LIBERTY and a spot of darker toning between stars 9 & 10. LDS,
die state c (Newcomb's #13). The repunching at the 18 is gone
and a fine die crack extends from the bust tip through star 1 to
the dentils under star 2. The chin is softly struck and a thin
planchet void shows on the end of the chin.
Our grade is
MS60 net AU58+ for the carbon spot.

1852 N-14 R1 Repunched Date NGC graded MS64
Brown
. Lustrous light bluish steel brown and olive with over-
tones of light bluish steel and traces of faded mint red on the
reverse. Essentially flawless. The only mark is a small spot of
darker toning off the upper right point of star 11. Sharply struck
EDS, die state a, with repunching visible on all 4 digits of the
date, including a delicate outline under the 8 and fine die lines
from the dentils at star 2. A rare die state for this variety.

grade is MS62+.

1852 N-15 R3 NGC graded MS63 Brown
. Choice glossy
light to medium chocolate brown. Underlying mint frost shows
through in the fields and a hint of faded mint color remains visi-
ble on the left side of the reverse. This cent is sharply struck
and it offers outstanding eye appeal. The only marks are a dull,
shallow rim nick at the first S in STATES and a small spot of red-
dish chocolate brown toning over NE in ONE. Rare EDS, die
state a. The die lines at the base of the N in ONE are clear.
Our
grade is AU58.
Not in the overall condition census for the vari-
ety but tied for third finest known of the EDS in the Grellman
census. The attribution is shown on the NGC label.
