1855 N-10 R1 Italic 5's PCGS graded MS64+ Brown
CAC APPROVED
. Choice lustrous light olive brown and
steel with traces of faded mint red remaining on both sides.
No spots or stains and only a couple trivial contact marks. A
thin nick-like vertical planchet void just right of star 2 is the
best identifying mark. Sharply struck EDS+, die state b,
with star 6 essentially missing due to a clog in the die. A
very nice example of this popular die state.
Our grade is
MS63.
Comes with a nice provenance.

1855 N-12 R1 Upright 5's PCGS graded MS64 Brown
.
Lustrous light olive and steel brown with 10% of the mint red
remaining on the obverse, 25% on the reverse. The only marks
are a very shallow and easily missed low spot on the right half
of the neck and a tiny planchet chip in the field off the upper
right point of star 1 (both as struck). Rare EDS, die state a, with
several fine lines down to right from the inner curl.
Our grade
is MS63,
tied for finest known of the EDS in the Grellman cen-
sus.
Removed from an ANACS slab graded MS63RB
(ANACS label #299030 included). The attribution is shown on
the PCGS label.

1855 N-13 R2 Upright 5's PCGS graded MS63 Brown
.
Frosty medium chocolate brown and steel with a couple tiny
peeps of faded mint red on the reverse. The only mark is a faint
wisp of darker toning at TAT in STATES. Nicely struck E-MDS,
die state a, with fine diagonal die lines covering the field inside
the wreath, strongest from the right top of the E in ONE.
Our
grade is MS60.

Group of Five 1856 Cents graded EF45 to AU50
. Includes
N-1 R1 Italic 5 M-LDS (b late), N-7 R2 Upright 5 E-MDS (b), N-
12 R1+ Upright 5 MDS (b), N-16 R2+ Italic 5 (removed from an
NGC slab graded MS61BN, label #3313369-014 included, and it
shows the attribution), and N-18 R1 Italic 5 E-MDS (b). All are
nice glossy brown and chocolate. Lot of 5 coins.

. Five points sharper with a few
light contact marks on otherwise smooth, attractive surfaces.
The notable marks are a small nick close under the chin, a shal-
low scratch between the E & D in UNITED, and another in the
dentils over S-O. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate del-
icately woodgrained with some darker chocolate brown toning
on the obverse. Rare LDS, die state g, with a series of 5 rim cud
breaks over D, STATES. The cud over the D is weak while the
other 4 are clearly defined.

1856 N-2 R1 Italic 5 MS60
. Glossy steel brown and light
chocolate with slightly darker medium chocolate brown toning
on the portrait. Traces of faded mint color show in protected
areas on the reverse. The only marks are a streak of lighter
golden tan toning on the cheek (caused by incomplete mixing in
the planchet alloy) and two tiny nicks in the field over star 1.
MDS, die state d. A fine die crack meanders from the dentils
through the left point of star 8 into the hair below ending at the
E in LIBERTY.
