1851 N-1 R1 PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown
.
Choice lustrous mint red fading to light steel brown on the
highpoints, nearly two-thirds of the original red remaining.
A beautiful cent, essentially flawless. A tiny spot of darker
steel toning over the hair bun and another even smaller
one hidden on the berry under the R in AMERICA are the
only marks, and they are microscopic. Sharply struck EDS,
die state a. The strong vertical die lines left of star 4 are
bold and the diagonal lines around the date are clear.
Our
grade is consistent with the PCGS grade.
CC#1 for the
variety in the Grellman census. The attribution is shown on
the PCGS label.

Group of 5 Cents, 1851-1855, grading EF40 to EF45
.
Includes 1851 N-1 R3 MDS (b), 1851 N-10 R1 MDS (b), 1854 N-
29 R3 MDS (b), 1855 N-4 R1 Upright 55 E-MDS (a), and 1855
N-7 R1 EDS (a, a scarce die state). The 55N4 is ten points
sharper but recolored; the other 4 are attractive glossy brown
and chocolate with smooth surfaces. Lot of 5 coins.

1851 N-2 R1 PCGS graded MS65 Brown,
CAC
APPROVED
. Lustrous medium brown and light chocolate with
at least 5% of the mint color remaining on each side. Nice eye
appeal, but there are a few light contact marks on the obverse.
These include a few nicks on the jaw and another on the coro-
net over the E in LIBERTY, plus a small spot of carbon in the
dentils over the A in STATES. M-LDS, die state b. The die line at
the throat is gone and the top of the 8 is a bit weak from die
wear.
Our grade is MS60.

1851 N-2 R1 MS60
. Lustrous golden tan and light steel
brown. No spots or stains. The only marks are a light vertical
nick left of star 10 and a few small rim nicks, the largest of
those over the E in AMERICA. M-LDS, die state b. The die line at
the throat is gone and fine flowlines cover the fields on both
sides.

(PCGS
label #1892.63/14760177 included).

1851/81 N-3 R1 Overdate 51 over Inverted 18 EF40
. Ten
points sharper but there are traces of reddish carbon in pro-
tected areas on both sides, mostly at OF-AM. Lightly cleaned
and recolored glossy medium chocolate brown with oxblood
toning in those reddish areas. Satiny mint frost covers most of
the fields and protected areas. EDS, die state a. The 51 over
Inverted 18 feature is sharp and die lines cover the field around
the date.
Removed from an ANACS slab graded AU50
(ANACS label #SC6527 included, and it shows the 51/81 fea-
ture).

1851 N-4 R1 Repunched 1's PCGS Genuine, AU Details,
Cleaning
. Cleaned and mostly retoned glossy light reddish
brown and chocolate. There are some small stains of dark ton-
ing on both sides, including a few between star 1 and the
throat. E-MDS, die state a late. The repunching on both 1's
remains clear and the diagonal die lines in the field around the
date are dull but visible.
Our grade is EF45 sharpness net
VF35.
The attribution is shown on the PCGS label.

.
Includes N-4 R1 Repunched 1's VEDS (a early), N-15 R2 E-MDS
(a), and N-20 R3 Repunched 1's VEDS (a early) (removed from
an NGC slab graded AU58, label #1628637-002 included, and it
shows the attribution). All are slightly sharper with minor con-
tact marks but attractive glossy brown and chocolate toning. Lot
of 3 coins.
