1810 C-1 R1 AU55
. Frosty steel brown and light chocolate
with very slightly darker chocolate brown toning between stars
4-7 and the dentils. No defects, only the lightest touch of fric-
tion on the highest points of the devices. Nicely struck MDS with
the reverse rotated 50 degrees CCW relative to the normal
head-to-foot die orientation. The repunching at the lower left of
the 0 in the date is clear.

1810 C-1 R1 PCGS graded AU50
. Choice frosty medium
chocolate brown with steel brown toning on the highpoints and
lustrous golden tan faded down from mint color in protected
areas. There is very little actual wear on this half cent but the
dies were well worn when this piece was struck. The only marks
are a nick on the end of the nose and a smaller one on the
cheek to the right. LDS with the reverse rotated 50 degrees
CCW from a normal head-to-foot die orientation. A nice piece
that offers excellent eye appeal.
Our grade is EF45.

1810 C-1 R1 VF20
. Five points sharper but there are a couple
short, shallow scratches at CE in CENT and one more at LF in
HALF. Otherwise this cent is smooth and attractive; nice for the
grade. Glossy chocolate brown. MDS.

1811 C-1 R6 (with the 4-Star Cud) VF20
. Sharpness VF35
but there are numerous fine scratches on the obverse, mostly
on the portrait, a rim nick under star 11, and shallow scrapes
around HALF CENT. The toning is an attractive glossy medium
chocolate brown and the naked-eye appeal of this piece is
excellent. Rare TDS, Manley state 5.0, with a large, strong cud
break connecting stars 1-4 to the rim. The opposing area at
TED-S is depressed and weak thanks to the cud, as always in
this die state. There was not enough planchet metal to fill out
the designs opposite the deep cud.

1811 C-1 R7 (as a die state) AG3
. Several points
sharper with many small pits on the obverse, a dull dent on
the rim below star 13, and a slightly bent planchet. No ver-
digris. Cleaned bright with dark steel and olive toning
remaining in the protected areas. The date is strong and
the legends are complete. Not the most attractive half cent
to be sure, but it is in the extremely rare M-LDS, Manley
state 4.0, with a bold cud break connecting stars 1 & 2 to
the rim. About 7 examples are known with the 2-star cud
break, and none of those is in high grade. This is the Mis-
souri Cabinet example of the die state. A very significant
die state for the specialist.

1811 C-2 R3 VF25+
. Attractive glossy medium chocolate and
olive brown. The surfaces are smooth and the eye appeal of this
piece is excellent. Very close to VF30. The only marks are a
small spot of darker toning in the field right of star 4 and a shal-
low rim bruise over the M in AMERICA. LDS, Manley state 3.0,
with clear die clashmarks between the last 1 in the date and the
curls above. A bit softly struck on the left edges of both sides,
as always on this variety, thanks to non-parallel die faces. A
very nice example of this tough date.
