1800 C-1 R2 ANACS graded VF35
. Slightly glossy olive
brown and chocolate. The surfaces are smooth and display only
a few trivial contact marks. A dull diagonal nick over the top of
the wreath is a good identifying mark. This piece is covered
with a very thin layer of dirt that dulls the natural gloss. A bath
may be indicated here to maximize the eye appeal. LDS, Manley
state 5.0. The thick die break from the E in UNITED to the
wreath is continuous.
Our grade is VF25.

1800 C-1 R2 F15
. Double Struck against Off-Center Blank
Planchet. Glossy light to medium chocolate brown with
smooth, attractive surfaces. No roughness or verdigris, only
trivial contact marks including a very light rim bruise at the
B in LIBERTY and a couple dull nicks high on the neck. Dou-
ble struck. The first strike was normal and properly cen-
tered on the planchet, but the coin failed to eject from the
press before another planchet was partially inserted into
the chamber and another strike occurred. The obverse die
struck the obverse a second time while the reverse die
struck the new blank planchet and pressed it into the
reverse of this piece about 40% off center leaving a strong
indent. There was a slight rotation between strikes on the
obverse leaving clear doubling on the lower part of the por-
trait and creating a date that reads "1188000." Weight 85.0
grains. A dramatic mint error and it comes with an impor-
tant provenance.

1802/0 C-2 R3 Overdate 2 over 0, Reverse of 1803 F12
.
Slightly sharper but extremely faint roughness covers much of
the obverse, strongest in the field behind the portrait. In addi-
tion there are a few tiny pits under the hair ribbon and a couple
more in the field off the chin. The only notable marks are a very
light rim bruise over the T in LIBERTY and a dull rim nick left of
the L. Glossy reddish chocolate brown with lighter steel brown
toning covering the devices. The date and legends are strong
and the overdate is obvious to the unaided eye. M-LDS, Manley
state 4.0, with significant die rust (tiny lumps on the coin)
showing on both sides. The microscopic environmental rough-
ness on the obverse is mostly lost in the die rust, and this piece
offers nice eye appeal. A popular overdate variety that is seldom
seen in grades better than VG.

1802/0 C-2 R3 Overdate 2 over 0, Reverse of 1803
PCGS graded Good-4
. Chocolate brown and steel. The
devices are smooth while the protected areas show microscopic
roughness. No verdigris, and the only marks are a small nick at
the top of the C in CENT and a thin diagonal nick at OF. The
date is complete and easily readable and the legends are com-
plete although a few letters are weak. The overdate feature is
clear. E-MDS, Manley state 2.0, showing complete curl left of
the date and few vertical die lines between the I & B in LIB-
ERTY.
Our grade is consistent with the slab grade.

1802/0 C-2 R3 Overdate 2 over 0, Reverse of 1803
AG3+
. Sharpness G4 but there are a half dozen sharp rim nicks
on the reverse and a couple light scratches inside the wreath.
Otherwise the surfaces are smooth showing only minor contact
marks consistent with the grade. Glossy medium chocolate
brown with slightly lighter steel brown toning on the devices.
The date is clear and the overdate feature is obvious. E-MDS,
Manley state 2.0. The curl left of the date is complete and minor
crumbling shows between the I & B in LIBERTY.
