. Sharpness VG7 but there are numerous tiny pits mixed with fine granularity on both sides. A

small area of shallow corrosion in the field before the neck and a smaller spot of corrosion at AL in HALF are the most-obvious marks. No ver-

digris or contact marks. Slightly glossy medium chocolate and darker steel. The date is complete and easily readable and the legends are

complete except for weakness at OF AMERICA and the fraction thanks to an uneven strike on that side, as usual due to non-parallel die faces.

EDS, Manley state 1.0. The die crack through the top of STAT to the dentils left the S is light but visible and the crack through the top of TED

to t+X78he dentils is faint. To the best of our knowledge this is the only example known of the early state and an uncracked example is

unknown. It is speculated that the non-parallel die faces and the uneven strike pressures that resulted from them are responsible for the early

if not immediate cracking of the reverse die. This is the Manley plate coin for the variety (the large photos) and of the early die state (his state

1.0). Less than 10 examples are known and only 1 of those grades better than VG. A great rarity and a major key to completing a half cent

collection by Cohen variety numbers, regardless of the die state.

Medium chocolate brown and steel with slightly lighter steel

brown toning on the devices. Traces of lighter brown toning

show in protected areas on the reverse. No roughness or verdi-

gris and only a few minor marks. The notable ones are a subtle

puff of reddish steel toning right of the Y in LIBERTY and a dull,

very shallow scratch from the second S in STATES to the leaves

below. Nicely struck EDS, Manley state 1.0, with no trace of a

die crack through the tops of TY in LIBERTY. The overdate fea-

ture is obvious. A nice example of this popular overdate variety.

Our grade is F15+, very close to VF20.

Attractive glossy light to medium chocolate brown changing to

darker chocolate brown in protected areas. No defects other

than a faint diagonal hairline scratch hidden in the hair left of

the ear. Nicely struck EDS with no trace of a die crack at TY and

the reverse rotated 15 degrees CCW. The date and legends are

strong and the overdate is obvious. A premium example of this

          popular overdate variety.

          Our grade is F15.
