1834 C-1 R1 ANACS graded AU55
. Clipped Planchet. Very
attractive frosty light olive brown and chocolate. Sharply struck
with just a hint of friction on the highest points of the devices.
The only defect is a short, light scratch from the bust tip to the
field close above star 1. EDS, Manley state 1.0, before any die
clashmarks. An incipient rim clip weakens the dentils over RI in
AMERICA.
Our grade is AU50.
The "Rim Clip," insignificant as
it may be, is noted on the ANACS label.

1835 C-1 R1 PCGS graded MS63 Red,
CAC APPROVED
.
Lustrous bright mint red just starting to fade to light steel
brown with 75% of the red remaining on the obverse and 95%
on the reverse. The only marks are some tiny specks of dark
toning on the obverse and a significant carbon spot between
the date and star 13. Otherwise this piece is a gem and the
reverse is flawless. Housed in an old green-label PCGS holder.
E-MDS, Manley state 1.0, with light die clashmarks on both
sides. The reverse is rotated 25 degrees CW. Most likely from
the Elmer Sears hoard that was discovered around 1935.
Our
grade is consistent with the PCGS grade.

1835 C-1 R1 NGC graded MS63 Brown
. Lustrous bluish
steel and medium chocolate brown. Satiny mint frost covers the
fields and protected areas. The only notable mark is a tiny nick
at the lower right point of star 8, and there is a bit of dirt in
some of the most-protected areas. E-MDS, Manley state 1.0,
with a single set of sharp die clashmarks along the profile.
Our
grade is MS60.

. Includes one each 1836 Original, 1840 Origi-
nal, 1844 Original, and 1845 Original. All are attractive glossy
brown and chocolate but were very lightly cleaned. None shows
any significant defects or visible base metal under the copper
electrotype shell. Lot of 4 coins.

. Frosty medium
brown and light chocolate with slightly darker steel brown ton-
ing on the highpoints. No spots or stains, only very light friction
on the highpoints and trivial contact marks, none visible without
the aid of a strong glass. EDS, Manley state 1.0.

1849 C-1 R2- ANACS graded AU50
. Frosty medium brown.
Nice eye appeal but there are a few tiny contact marks visible
under magnification. The notable marks are a small scratch
between the date and star 1 and a vertical one left of star 6. M-
LDS, Manley state 2.0, with a fine vertical line up through the
left end of the base of the 1.
Our grade is EF45 net EF40 for
the minor marks.

. Mint state sharpness, and this piece
looks like a choice lustrous mint state example to the unaided
eye, but it has been whizzed and retoned to enhance the cart-
wheel luster and eye appeal. No marks or other defects. Lus-
trous bluish steel and chocolate with underlying lighter reddish
steel toning in protected areas on the reverse. EDS.
