1854 C-1 R1+ NGC graded MS65 Brown
. Lustrous bluish
steel and olive brown. Sharply struck and quite attractive. The
notable marks are a tiny scratch in the field before the brow
lock, a collection of tiny marks left of star 9, and a faint spot of
slightly darker toning at the dentils over the first T in STATES.
MDS, Manley state 2.0, with a shallow lump on the upright of
the I in UNITED. A nice half cent.
Our grade is MS63.

1854 C-1 R1+ PCGS graded MS63 Brown
. Lustrous
medium chocolate brown and olive with subtle overtones of
light bluish steel and faded mint color showing on about 20% of
each side. No spots or stains. The only mark is a diagonal nick
on the jaw. Otherwise this half cent is choice in every respect.
Sharply struck E-MDS, Manley state 1.0. The dash left of the
base of the 1 is clear.
Our grade is MS62.

1854 C-1 R1+ NGC graded MS63 Brown
. Frosty light to
medium chocolate brown fading to slightly darker olive brown in
protected areas. The only marks are a small nick on the end of
the chin, a shallow nick on the cheek, and a long diagonal nick
right of the main curl. Sharply struck EDS, Manley state 1.0. The
designs are crisp and the dash left of the base of the 1 is clear.
Excellent eye appeal in spite of the minor marks.
Our grade is
AU58+, very close to MS60.

1854 C-1 R1+ NGC graded MS62 Brown
. Lustrous steel
brown and light chocolate with underlying faded red showing
through in the fields and protected areas on the obverse. Traces
of faded mint color can be found on the reverse as well. The
only defects are small spots of dark toning scattered over the
obverse, and some of those spots contain traces of carbon.
Sharply struck M-LDS, Manley state 2.0, with a shallow lump on
the upright of the I in UNITED. The dash left of the base of the
1 remains visible.
Our grade is MS60.

1855 C-1 R1 NGC graded MS65 Red & Brown
. Beautiful
lustrous mint red fading to bluish steel brown with at least 50%
of the mint color remaining. Nearly flawless in every respect.
The only defects, and they are barely visible, are a tiny tick on
the truncation over the 8 and a thin nick on the left upright of
the U in UNITED. Nicely struck E-MDS. A very nice example of
this common date.
Our grade is consistent with the NGC
grade.

1855 C-1 R1 NGC graded MS66 Brown
. Very attractive lus-
trous bluish steel brown and light chocolate. The surfaces are
covered with satiny mint frost and the eye appeal is outstand-
ing. No spots, stains, or contact marks. Nicely struck except for
minor weakness in some of the dentils, which is typical for 1855
half cents. MDS.
Our grade is MS64.

light chocolate brown with darker chocolate toning at STATE.
There are tiny specks of darker toning scattered over both
sides, but it takes a glass to see them. No contact marks or
other defects. Sharply struck MDS.
Our grade is MS60.

brown. The only marks are a spot of darker toning at the dentils
left of star 7 and a small nick on the top of the E in CENT. There
is a hint of friction on the highest points of the devices but the

. Frosty medium
brown and light chocolate. Excellent eye appeal. The notable
marks are a small scratch between stars 2 & 3, a tiny nick on
the front edge of the neck, and a spot of darker chocolate ton-
ing under star 8. LDS, Manley state 2.0, with a fine horizontal
scratch tangent to the leaf under the second S in STATES.
Our
grade is MS60.
