1807 C-1 R1 NGC graded MS61 Brown
. Frosty bluish steel
and chocolate brown, the obverse a couple shades darker than
the reverse. The sharpness is very close to mint state but the
upper part of the obverse is covered with microscopic rough-
ness, strongest on the rim above LIBERTY. No verdigris or con-
tact marks, and the reverse is choice. M-LDS, Manley state 2.0
late. The repunching on the 7 is weak but still visible, and most
of the dentils are gone. The reverse is rotated 30 degrees CCW.
Our grade is AU55 sharpness net EF45.

shown on the NGC label.

steel brown with golden light steel faded down from mint color

state 3.0. A die crack meanders across the top of the 7 and the
dentils on the obverse are gone.

brown with frost in protected areas. Great eye appeal, but a
glass reveals some faint hairline scratches on the portrait,
mostly hidden in the hair. LDS, Manley state 3.0. The obverse
fields are covered with radial die flowlines and are slightly swol-
len, and STATES is relatively weak from die wear.
Our grade is
EF45 sharpness net VF35.

1807 C-1 R1 VF30
. Glossy dark steel brown and choco-
late. Close to VF35 but there are two parallel nicks on the
bust just below the neck and a pair of shallow planchet
flakes in the field off the upper end of the hair ribbon. EDS,
Manley state 1.0, with dentils all the way around the
obverse and sharp repunching visible on the 7. This piece
was double struck. The first strike was slightly off center.
The planchet was then flipped over and restruck properly.
The neck of Ms Liberty is clearly visible on the wreath bow
and the lower part of all 4 digits of the date show on the
rim at UNI. A curved depression inside the top of the
wreath is from the back of the head leading into the hair
ribbon. While there are obvious remnants of the off-center
obverse showing on the reverse, there is no trace of an
undertype on the obverse. A neat mint error that offers
excellent eye appeal.

1807 C-1 R1 VF25
. Nice glossy chocolate brown and steel. No
roughness or verdigris, only minor contact marks. The best
identifying mark is a faint hairline scratch from the bottom of
the eye to the ear. Rare EDS, Manley state 1.0. The repunching
on the 7 is sharp and most of the dentils are clear. The strike on
EN in CENT and the ribbon loop below is soft, which is typical of
the early state, but everything else is sharp.
