1805 C-2 R5 Small 5 with Stems PCGS Genuine
Good Details Bent
. Rather glossy medium steel brown on
the devices with darker steel and chocolate toning covering
the fields and protected areas. The devices are mostly
smooth while very fine roughness covers the rest of the
planchet. A slight upward bend in the planchet along the
right edge of the obverse has resulted in extra wear on the
right side of the wreath. In addition there are several plan-
chet voids in that area, strongest at F-A and traces of light
greenish crust in protected areas around F-AMER. The date
is complete and clear and the legends are nearly complete.
Our grade is G5+ sharpness net AG3+.
The eye
appeal is not as bad as the description might imply. The
attribution is shown on the PCGS label.
Estimated Value .............................................. $1,000-UP

1805 C-3 R4 Small 5 with Stems PCGS graded VG8
.
Attractive glossy chocolate brown and steel. The surfaces are
perfectly smooth, void of any hint of corrosion or verdigris. Just
a few microscopic contact marks including a small nick on the N
in CENT. LDS, Manley state 2.0, showing an obvious bulge cov-
ering most of the field before the portrait. The date is bold and
the legends are clear except for the usual weakness on HA in
HALF and CE in CENT.
Our grade is VG7 and nearly choice
for that grade.
The "Small 5, Stems" features are noted on
the PCGS label.
Estimated Value .................................................... $1,000-UP

1806 C-4 R1 Large Repunched 6 NGC graded MS62
Brown
. Very attractive lustrous medium steel brown and light
chocolate with at least 5% of the mint red remaining. Mint frost
covers the fields and protected areas on both sides. The only
defects are a few microscopic marks in the field very close to
the upper lip and a spot of slightly darker toning on the top of
the E in CENT. MDS, Manley state 2.0. The repunching on the 6
is gone and the reverse is rotated 25 degrees CW from the nor-
mal head-to-foot die orientation. The rotation resulted in strike
weakness on the bust and the opposing area at the top of the
wreath.
Our grade is MS60+.
Estimated Value .................................................... $1,000-UP
142
1806 C-4 R1 Large Repunched 6 VF35
. Slightly sharper but
there are some tiny ticks scattered over the portrait, none nota-
ble but too many to ignore, plus a tiny rim nick over the D in
UNITED. Glossy medium chocolate brown and olive with steel
brown toning on the devices. E-MDS, Manley state 1.0.
Repunching is visible at the top and bottom of the Large 6 and
the strike is sharper than usually seen on this variety. The
reverse is rotated 20 degrees CW.
Estimated Value .......................................................$200-UP
