1807 S-271 R1 "Comet" Obverse VG10

. Glossy chocolate

brown with darker steel brown and olive toning on the devices.

No corrosion or verdigris, only small contact marks. These

include some tiny ticks on the portrait, a light scratch at ES-OF,

and a half dozen sharp rim nicks on the reverse. MDS. The

"Comet" flaw in the field behind the head is clear.

1807 S-274 R2 Small Fraction F12

. Sharpness VF35 but

covered with uniform fine granularity. No verdigris, and the only

marks are a dull but deep nick near the dentils behind the head

and an old scratch in the hair at the shoulder. Dark chocolate

brown and olive. MDS, Breen state III, with swelling at STA in

STATES but no die cracks.

1807 S-276 R1 Large Fraction F15+

. Rather glossy steel

brown blending to olive brown in protected areas. The surfaces

are satiny and attractive. No corrosion or verdigris, only a few

tiny marks. A tiny tick on the diagonal of the N in ONE is the

best identifying mark, but you will need a glass to see it. EDS,

Breen state I, with the reverse rotated 30 degrees CCW. A

choice cent for the grade, close to VF20.

. Sharpness EF45 or slightly better

and choice except for a dull nick at the dentils over the L in

LIBERTY plus a smaller nick in the dentils at star 3 and

another at the bottom of the reverse. Very attractive glossy

light brown and tan with steel brown highpoints. Great eye

appeal in spite of the few small marks. MDS, Breen state IV.

Star 1 is weak but visible, the weakness caused by die fail-

ure at the opposing area on the reverse.

. Sharpness VF35 but there is a scuff of

fine scratches on the portrait and a few more on the rim under

the date. The scratches are old and blend perfectly into the

attractive glossy medium chocolate brown toning. EDS, Breen
