Large Cents

300

1817 N-16 R1 15-Star Obverse EF45

. Sharper by at least 5

points but there are some very light contact marks around ONE

CENT and a light rim bruise at the F in OF. Otherwise this piece

is choice and the eye appeal remains excellent. Glossy choco-

late brown with frosty luster in the protected areas on both

sides. Sharply struck EDS before the small cud break formed in

the dentils at AM in AMERICA. A nice example of the popular

15-Star Obverse variety.

Estimated Value ....................................................... $500-UP

304

1818 N-10 R1 AU55

. A frosty mint state cent that has a few

too many tiny handling marks for the mint state grade. A dull

vertical nick just right of the nostril and a small pinprick over the

right side of the N in ONE are the notable marks. No spots or

stains. Lustrous steel brown and chocolate with very faded mint

color showing on about 20% of the planchet. M-LDS, the usual

Randall Hoard die state for the variety.

1819/8 N-1 R1 Overdate 9 over 8 EF45+

. Very attractive

glossy chocolate brown with traces of lighter brown and tan in

protected areas. Frosty flowline luster shows in the fields and

protected areas. No roughness or verdigris only a few trivial

contact marks. A couple tiny pinpricks on the left edge of the

first 1 in the date can help identify this cent. Great eye appeal

for the grade, very close to AU50. MDS. The overdate is bold.

1819 N-2 R1 Large Date AU50

. Glossy light olive and choco-

late with overtones of light bluish steel and sea green in pro-

tected areas. Traces of faded mint red remain visible on the

reverse. No spots or stains. The only marks are a pinprick left of

the earlobe and a couple light scratches right of the E in ONE.

Sharply struck EDS with smooth, slightly reflective fields. The

repunching on the 9 (possibly a 9 over 8) is clear. Very nice eye

appeal for the grade, perhaps closer to AU55 than AU50.
