1828 N-11 R2 EF45

. Five points sharper but there are a few

very fine scratches well hidden in the hair at the top of the ear

and a couple similar marks in the hair above the eye. Otherwise

the notable marks are a horizontal nick on the jaw and a shal-

low planchet flake in the field off the chin. Glossy medium

brown and light chocolate blending to olive brown in protected

areas. MDS. There are microscopic radial die flowlines in the

fields but the repunching on the first S in STATES and O in OF is

still clear. Graded AU50 by Del Bland. This is the plate coin for

the variety in the John Wright reference on the cents of 1816-

1839.

1829 N-9 R4 Medium Letters Reverse VF20

. Glossy

medium brown and light chocolate. Smooth and attractive offer-

ing great eye appeal. The only marks are some very tiny pin-

pricks just right of the bottom of star 6. E-MDS with a very light

die crack from the dentils through star 12 and the portrait to

star 4 where the crack fades away. The strike is typical for the

variety with softness on all the stars and most of the devices

while the color and surfaces are consistent with a higher grade.

Estimated Value ....................................................... $300-UP

Pair of Cents, 1830 & 1833

. Includes 1830 N-1 R1 M-LDS

Both are smooth and attractive for the grade. Lot of 2 coins.

1830 N-6 R4 Medium Letters Reverse VF20

. Glossy

medium chocolate brown and steel. The obverse is smooth and

choice while the reverse displays microscopic dirt in the fields

and protected areas. The only notable marks are a few very dull

scratches above and to the right of the date and a shallow

streak of planchet flakes or laminations connecting the top of

the F in OF to the foot of the adjacent A in AMERICA. E-MDS.

The die crack off the bust tip has not formed. Rather well struck

for this popular "Redbook" variety, which usually comes with

significant weakness on the stars and along the top of the head.

1831 N-7 R1 Large Letters Reverse PCGS graded AU58

.

Lustrous medium olive and chocolate with hints of underlying

very faded mint color on the obverse and 15% of the reverse

showing faded mint red. There is a delicate scuff in the field

between star 3 and the nose and another on the cheek, and

these scuffs break the toning. Otherwise this cent is choice. LDS

with crumbling in the notch on the right side of the R in AMER-

ICA.

Our grade is AU55

. Housed in an older generation PCGS

slab with a green label.

1831 N-7 R1 Large Letters Reverse AU50

. Frosty light

brown and tan with slightly darker steel brown toning on the

highpoints and puffs of darker bluish steel toning at AM and RI

in AMERICA. Underlying mint luster covers the fields and pro-

tected areas and the eye appeal is excellent. The notable marks

are a dull diagonal nick left of the ear lobe and a small spot of

darker toning in the field right of the lower right point of star 2.

MDS. The fields are lightly flowlined but the crumbling in the

notch of the R in AMERICA has not formed. The reverse is

rotated 25 degrees CCW from the normal head-to-foot orienta-

tion.
