. Glossy light olive brown and steel
mixed with splashes of reddish chocolate brown on the reverse.
The surfaces are smooth and the only mark is a pinprick just

1809 S-280 R2 NGC graded AU55
. Frosty dark steel
brown and chocolate. The reverse is lustrous but the luster
on the obverse is a bit subdued due to a thin layer of natu-
ral oxidation. The surfaces are smooth and choice except
for a very faint hairline scratch on the cheek and some
extremely faint roughness at stars 5-7. MDS, Breen state
VI, with die cracks at the top of the wreath.
Our grade is
AU50 sharpness net EF40.

. Sharpness VF35 but the majority of the
planchet is covered with microscopic roughness that is partially
hidden under attractive chocolate and olive brown toning. There
are a couple fine scratches hidden in the toning on the portrait
and a collection of tiny pits under NE in ONE. No verdigris.
Nicely struck E-MDS, Breen state II, with a single die crack from
the E in STATES to the wreath. The repunching on the 9 is obvi-
ous.

. Sharpness EF40 but the field before the
face has been smoothed in an attempt to remove a few dull
scratches. Otherwise the only notable mark is a shallow dig on
the truncation over the 8 in the date. Recolored a rather glossy
reddish chocolate brown and darker olive brown. E-MDS.
