1800/79 S-192 R3 Overdate 80 over 79, Style II Hair
VG10
. A couple points sharper with microscopic granularity in
the fields and protected areas. No verdigris only a few light con-
tact marks. The notable ones are a few small ticks in the field
left of the lower curls. Mostly glossy medium olive brown and
chocolate. EDS, Breen state I, with both dies uncracked. The
date and legends are clear and the overdate feature is obvious.

1800/79 S-193 R4 Overdate 80 over 79, Style II Hair
F12
. Sharpness VF25 with shallow dark scale caked into pro-
tected areas on both sides and the remainder of the planchet
displays microscopic roughness. There are small nicks scattered
over both sides but no notable marks, and the planchet is very
slightly bent. Light chocolate and steel brown with darker olive
and steel in protected areas. MDS, Breen state II. Die clash-
marks show on both sides and there is a fine die crack that arcs
through the fraction and UN.

. Slightly sharper but there is some micro-
scopic roughness in protected areas plus some light contact
marks scattered over both sides. A trio of small nicks just right
of the earlobe and a dull scratch right of the D in UNITED are
good identifying marks. E-MDS with a subtle bulge at STA. The
date and legends are strong.

. A point or two sharper but there are
a half dozen shallow pin scratches across the date. Otherwise
the surfaces are smooth and the only defect is a shallow plan-
chet flake right of the D in UNITED (as struck). Mostly glossy
medium olive brown and steel. The date and legends are easily
readable except for those elements on the reverse that are
affected by the severe swelling associated with the latest die
state. TDS, Breen state VII. The die failures on both sides are
as advanced as they get on this variety. A neat die state.
