Brown,
CAC APPROVED
. Highly lustrous light bluish steel
brown with at least 5% of both sides showing mint red. Satiny
mint frost covers this cent, even the highest points of the
devices, and the eye appeal is outstanding. The best identifying
mark is a small spot nestled against the curl left of star 12.
Nicely struck EDS (the N-8 die state). The fields are just starting
to show fine radial flowlines and the dull die lines over ERICA
are clear. A nice cent.

1842 N-5 R3 Large Date PCGS graded MS63 Brown
.
Beautiful lustrous medium bluish steel brown and chocolate
with 5% of the obverse showing mellowed mint color while
20% of the reverse is covered with faded mint red. The surfaces
of this cent are satiny and it offers excellent eye appeal. The
only notable defects are a couple light diagonal nicks between
the end of the chin and star 2 and microscopic specks of darker
toning around TED-ST. EDS, die state a, with very fine die lines
at the throat and a microscopic die line from the dentils over the
left side of the R in AMERICA. The top of a stray 4 is clearly vis-
ible in the dentils under the left side of the normal 4. A very nice
example of this variety.
Our grade is MS62,
CC#6 in the Grell-
man census.
Pop 42; 57 finer at PCGS.

1844 N-5 R1 First 4 Repunched NGC graded MS62
Brown
. Very attractive glossy light to medium chocolate brown.
Frosty luster shows in some of the protected areas and this cent
offers excellent eye appeal. There is a hint of friction on the
highpoints of the devices and a few tiny ticks, none notable. A
spot of slightly darker toning under star 8 can help identify this
cent. LDS, die state d, with a bold rim cud break from below the
18 to star 1. The repunching at the top of the first 4 is still visi-
ble.
Our grade is AU50. Pop 25; 62 finer at NGC.

1846 N-9 R2 Small Date PCGS graded MS63 Brown
.
Glossy steel brown and light chocolate. The surfaces are
smooth and choice with only a touch of friction on the highest
points of the devices. A tiny spot of slightly darker chocolate
brown toning at the dentils over the right top of the first T in
STATES is a good identifying mark for this attractive cent. MDS,
die state b. The arc line connecting the tops of the C & A in
AMERICA is faint but visible and the fine repunching found on
the 18 in the earliest state is gone. Called MS60 and tied for
CC#7 in the Noyes census, his photo #31564.
Our grade is
AU55.
