1794 S-34 R5+ AG3
. Slightly glossy reddish olive brown and
chocolate with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. The
surfaces are a bit uneven and have been lightly smoothed. No

tion to the adjacent U in UNITED. The date is faint but readable
as are most of the legends. EDS.

1794 S-35 R5 AG3+
. A few points sharper but covered with
fine to moderate granularity on all but the highpoints, which are
smooth. No verdigris, and the only notable contact marks are a
minor rim bruise at the top of the cap and another at the D in
UNITED. Slightly glossy light to medium chocolate brown with
darker olive brown toning in the protected areas. E-MDS. The
bisecting die crack on the obverse appears as a wave from the E
in LIBERTY to the 94 and the reverse is rotated 45 degrees CW
from the normal head-to-foot die orientation. The date and leg-
ends are all easily readable.

. A point or two sharper but covered with
minor roughness. No marks or verdigris. Slightly glossy dark
steel brown and chocolate with slightly lighter steel brown ton-
ing on the highpoints. The date and legends are all easily read-

1794 S-38 R5 VG8
. Glossy tan and light brown on the devices
blending to darker olive brown and chocolate in the protected
areas. The two-tone appearance accents the devices and adds
to the eye appeal. No roughness or verdigris, and the only
marks are a rim bruise right of the Y and a tiny one over the
second A in AMERICA. MDS. The two chips in the field under
the cap are obvious. The date and legends are complete and
easily readable and the Single Berry Left of Bow feature is
strong. A decent example of this tough variety.

1794 S-40 R5+ G4

dents on the obverse and one more on the reverse. Otherwise
the planchet and surfaces are decent for the grade with only
microscopic roughness in protected areas and minor contact
marks. Glossy medium chocolate brown. MDS. The chips in the
field under the cap are clear. The date is weak but easily read-
able and the legends are clear except where affected by the
dents.

. Sharpness F15 but unevenly corroded,
the roughness varying from microscopic to moderate. No verdi-
gris or contact marks. Slightly glossy very dark olive brown and
steel. The date is complete and easily readable but not clear
thanks to the roughness. The legends are clear. LDS showing
two strong radial die cracks non the reverse ending at CE in

1794 S-42 R4 VG8
. A couple points sharper but there is very
fine granularity under glossy dark olive brown toning. The high-
points of the devices are smooth and are toned a lighter shade
of steel brown. No verdigris, and the only notable marks are a
dull nick in the field right of the Y in LIBERTY and a tiny rim
bruise over the O in OF. Struck from dies that were axially mis-
aligned (the die faces were not perfectly parallel) causing weak-
ness on the 179 and the opposing STATES. The date and
STATES are weak but readable and everything else is clear.
