1929, $10 National Bank Note. The First NB,
Winnemucca, NV, Ch#3575. PMG Gem Uncirculated
66EPQ
.
Fr-1801-1
.
KL-1243
. A spectacular Gem with
excellent margins, bold original embossing, and bright
paper that contrasts with the rich inks. This note comes
from a small run of high grade pieces that was separated
and absorbed into the market years ago, and it's as nice as
any we've ever seen from here.
Estimated Value .................................... $12,500 - 15,000

1929 Type 1, $10 National Bank Note. The First NB,
Santa Ana, CA, Ch#3520. PCGS Very Fine 20
.
Fr-1801-1
.
KL-1243
. While a number of small size notes from this bank
are available to most collectors who want one, this is the only
serial number 1 note extant, large size or small size, from this
Orange County bank. It is moderately circulated, but solid for
the grade and with no mentionable flaws. While difficult to esti-
mate, similar notes from California have brought strong four-fig-
ure numbers in recent years. Please see photo on our website.
Estimated Value ..............................................$2,000 - 2,500

. An attractive small size example
with only minor traces of circulation. This bank eventually
became the conglomerate institution with which we are all
familiar today, Citibank.
Estimated Value ..................................................... $75 - 100

. This note has a lot going for it: it's a
high grade small size note from a state where it's notori-
ously difficult to obtain any nice example outside of the
hoard of $5s from this same bank; it's a $50 from a state
that doesn't report many notes of this denomination to the
NBN census; and it's a lovely Gem with excellent face cen-
tering, bold embossing, and terrific originality. This same
note sold for nearly $7500 back in 2005; expect that real-
ization to set the floor for bidding for this lovely example.
Estimated Value .................................... $10,000 - 15,000

ner bend is all that prevents a Choice New grade on this fully

1929, $100 Federal Reserve Bank Note. PCGS Superb
Gem New 67PPQ

. This is a very rare
type in this lofty grade, with just a half dozen examples from all
districts graded at this level by both of the major grading ser-
vice (four from PCGS and two from PMG). This Chicago district
note boasts bold inks, terrific embossing, and wonderful eye
appeal-all that one would expect for the grade. The market for
high grade small size notes has shown significant strength in
the past year, so a final realization well in excess of our estimate
would not be a surprise. Please see photo on our website.
