Two Cent Pieces/Three Cent Pieces

1864. Large Motto
.
PCGS graded MS-65 Red
. The surfaces
of this coin are virtually unmellowed and show the original
orange-red color that it left the Mint with. It is truly amazing
that this coin still exists in essentially the same state it was in
when Generals Grant and Lee commanded their respective
armies that fought the Battle of the Wilderness. It's like holding
history in your hand. Housed in an early green label holder.

NGC graded MS-64 Red
. The digits of the
date show evidence of repunching. Ample golden-orange luster
remains on both sides, the highpoints also reveal light toning in
a pale brown iridescence to confirm the validity of the RB color
designation. A boldly struck Choice example that reveals no sin-
gularly mentionable blemishes.

NGC graded Proof 66 Red & Brown
. In a somewhat
variegated fashion, blue-purple and deep cherry-red colors are
seen over the obverse of this remarkably toned Gem; similar
blue-purple dominates the reverse. The design elements are
fully struck up and reveal pleasing variance with the reflective
obverse fields. No mentionable contact marks or spots are evi-
dent on the carefully preserved surfaces. Only 950 pieces were
minted.
