The surfaces are very porous and exhibit an unnatural copper
color under a layer of irregular dark incrustation. Still, a well
detailed example of this key date in the series.

.
PCGS graded Proof 65 Red & Brown.
CAC
APPROVED.
Lovely shades of red color over the obverse, the
reverse is a somewhat deeper shade of red and brown. Proof
mintage increased in 1883 with the addition of three major
types of nickel five cent coinage spurring collector demand.
There were 6,609 pieces minted in Proof, which is still very low
by today's standards when millions of proof sets are struck
every year.

.
NGC graded Proof 64 RB Cameo.
CAC APPROVED.
The obverse presents a bright copper-red appearance with
some slight muting of color; the reverse is a deep cherry-red.
The deeply reflective surfaces contrast nicely with the frosted
devices of this outstanding Proof specimen. A Choice example
with sharply struck design motifs and exceptional eye appeal.

Estimated Value ................................................... $700 - 750

1909 Indian
.
PCGS graded MS-66 Red
. Vibrant red color
evenly overlays each side of this remarkable Gem example. The
surfaces are truly outstanding as there are no bagmarks or
spots of any consequence. The strike is better than average
with only the slightest softness on a few of the feathers, but the
wreath and shield are sharp. In terms of quality, this piece is
one of the finest we have seen in some time.
Pop 161; 18
finer, 12 in 66+, 6 in 67.

Estimated Value ..............................................$1,100 - 1,200
