1891-CC
.
NGC graded MS-64 DPL
. A blazing white coin. Sil-
ver cartwheel luster radiates from the nicely reflecting surfaces
of this attractive coin. Liberty’s profile is snow white and
frosted. The eagle’s body and wings also give it nice contrast
against the deeply prooflike field. A great deal of discussion also
surrounds a coin's strike. This 1891-CC has excellent detail with
no sign of weakness to the hair above the ear. There is a tiny
mark at the center of Liberty’s cheek, as well as a few normal
light bagmarks in the field that are amplified by its bright reflec-
tive quality. All in keeping with the MS64 assignment by NGC.

untoned. The choice surface reveals bountiful mint frostiness

indeed, a bold strike. Scarce CC mint offering. (

1892-CC
.
PCGS graded AU-50
. Mostly untoned with some
latent mint frost around the legends and within most devices
from the short while it circulated. Silver dollars for the most part
served as bank and Treasury backing for Silver Certificate paper
money in the years from 1886 to the 1930s. Out West and in
the upper Midwest, silver money was favored, but elsewhere,
people were happy to accept the more convenient paper equiv-
alent, knowing that they could at any time redeem it for specie
at any bank. (
