1783 Maryland Chalmers Shilling with Long Worm

Breen-1012 PCGS graded VF35

. Attractive glossy dark

gunmetal blue and steel with lighter silvery gray toning on

the devices. The surfaces are smooth and this piece offers

excellent eye appeal. The only notable mark is a diagonal

hairline scratch under the central clasped-hands device on

the reverse. The strike is relatively soft under NG in SHIL-

LING and the opposing area under LM in CHALMERS, but

everything else is nicely impressed. Struck slightly off cen-

ter to the right, but still centered better than the Breen

plate coin for the variety. The "Long Worm" feature is clear

(which is often not the case), and it is noted on the PCGS

label. A very nice example of this historic private Colonial

issue. Listed on page 53 in the "Redbook."

Estimated Value ............................................ $4,000 - UP

1787 Connecticut Draped Bust Left Miller 43.1-Y R2

PCGS graded VF25

. Variety with CONNFC instead of CONNEC.

Slightly glossy medium brown and light chocolate blending to

darker olive brown in protected areas. The surfaces are mostly

smooth but you can find traces of microscopic granularity in the

fields and protected areas. No verdigris and the only notable

mark is a faint planchet fissure slanting through the E in INDE.

The date and legends are complete and strong. Nice for the

grade, and the CONNFC error is obvious. Listed as a separate

type on page 64 in the "Redbook." The CONNFC error is noted

on the PCGS label.

Estimated Value .....................................................$150 - UP

1787 Fugio Cent. Pointed rays, cinquefoils, "UNITED

STATES"

.

NGC graded MS-64

. A nice medium brown coin

that offers a sharp strike and hard surfaces. Bold die clashing in

the fields as nearly always seen on these. A good example to

represent this style.

Pop 35; 16 finer, 13 in 65, 3 in 66.

Estimated Value .............................................. $3,000 - 3,500

(1792-4) Kentucky Token with Plain Edge Breen-1155

PCGS graded MS64 Red

. Frosty mint red mellowing to steel

brown with at least half of the faded mint color remaining visi-

ble. Sharply struck and nearly flawless. The notable marks are a

tiny rim nick over the T in THE on the obverse and a couple

specks of darker toning at the end of the rays down from the NJ

star on the reverse. Earlier die state with a barely visible die

crack down through the U in OUR at the top of the scroll. A pre-

mium example of this popular Early American "Cent." Listed on

page 77 in the "Redbook."

Pop 2; none finer at PCGS. Tied

for the finest examples graded at both services.

Estimated Value .................................................. $1,000 - UP
