1903-S
.
PCGS graded MS-65
. A superior Gem example,
richly toned overall in somewhat mottled shades of blue-
green, gray, with accents of mauve and pink on the
reverse. In tune with the 1904 S-mint issue in this series,
the 1903-S is a remarkably scarce coin in the finer Mint
State grades despite a respectable original mintage of 1.2
million pieces. It seems likely that many coins of this date
were included among the 270,232,722 silver dollars that
the U.S. government melted under the provisions of the Pit-
tman Act. That silver was subsequently sold to the British
government which then shipped it off to India during a sil-
ver panic in the subcontinent. The surfaces exhibit a
smooth, carefully preserved appearance. There are very
few of the usual contact marks, and neither side reveals
any singularly distracting nicks or spots. A bold strike
rounds out this coin's list of positive attributes.

at the obverse rim and over most of the reverse. Sharply struck
with minimally reflective fields. Only 650 pieces were struck.

1921-S
.

champagne highlights. The strike is somewhat soft, typical for
the date and mint.
