1900-O, O Over CC Top-100
.
NGC graded MS-64
. An
interesting variety with the primary mintmark struck over a par-
tially effaced CC -- apparently a leftover die from the Carson
City Mint that closed in 1893. Well detailed and lustrous, with
few signs of contact. (

appearance. (

PCGS graded MS-63
. While not rare in and of
itself, the 1901 Morgan dollar is certainly available in circu-
lated grades, but in Uncirculated grades, most of those
known are in lower grades of MS-62 and down. Finding a
Select example that has brilliant silver surfaces and pleas-
ing luster is a delight for the specialist. A few shallow scuffs
are present, as expected for the grade level, but the eye
appeal is high and the surface quality above and beyond
what is commonly encountered. An impressive condition
scarcity that should please most advanced collectors.

PCGS graded AU-53
. Mostly untoned silver-gray sur-
faces. A well struck example of this key date that retains slight
portions of mint luster around the devices. A couple of minor
marks are seen here and there. (

Sharply impressed, the
frosty textured surfaces combine a champagne-peach obverse
with a deeper toned, more colorful reverse. Minimally abraded
and overall smooth in an example of this more conditionally
challenging issue in the S-mint Morgan dollar series.

.
PCGS graded Proof 62
. Deep blue and golden toning
shows on both sides. Well struck with a satiny eagle. The
obverse has more brilliance as this is how Proof Morgans were
struck in 1901 to 1904. There are some trivial hairlines, but not
discernible marks that limit the grade. Only 755 were minted as
proofs. (
