1787 Connecticut Miller 32.2-X.1 Rarity-3 VF25
. Draped
Bust Left. Clipped Planchet. Slightly sharper with uniform micro-
scopic roughness under a glossy dark olive brown and chocolate
patina. No verdigris, marks, or planchet flaws other than a
minor planchet clip that affects the dentils over AUC. The bot-
tom edge of the date is off the planchet but the rest of the date
is bold and the legends are strong. Listed on page 62 in the
"Redbook." Weight 121.1 grains.

1787 Connecticut Miller 33.2-Z.5 Rarity-1 VF25
. Draped
Bust Left. Slightly glossy dark olive brown and steel. The sur-
faces are nice but not perfectly smooth with microscopic granu-
larity under the mostly glossy toning. The only mark is a
smoothed rim nick under the shoulder. MDS with a die crack
from the D in INDE to the waist of the seated figure. The date
and legends are complete and strong. Weight 130.1 grains.
Listed on page 62 in the "Redbook."
Estimated Value .......................................................$150-UP
33
1787 Connecticut Miller 33.7-r.4 Rarity-5+ F12
. Draped
Bust Left. Sharpness VF20 but covered with fine roughness
under a rather glossy dark olive brown and steel patina. The
only marks are a shallow planchet lamination at UC in AUCTORI
(as struck) and a few very faint hairline scratches at the top of
the head. The date is weak and the bottom of the digits are off
the planchet, but it is easily readable. The legends are com-
plete. Not perfect but very nice for this variety. It is at least
comparable to the better of the two Perkins examples and the
variety was missing from the Ford collection. This is the Norweb
coin, and it was plated in that 1988 catalog. Listed on page 62
in the "Redbook." Weight 134.5 grains.
Estimated Value .......................................................$100-UP

1787 Connecticut Miller 37.14-cc.2 Rarity-6 VG8
. Draped
Bust Left. Sharpness at least F15 where the designs were prop-
erly struck up, but the right half of the obverse is covered with
hairline scratches, there is a sharp nick on the chin, and traces
of greenish verdigris show on the left side of the reverse. In
addition a planchet lamination fissure extends horizontally
across the obverse passing through the middle of the neck.
Rather glossy medium brown and light chocolate. The date is
weak but still readable with some effort. This piece was struck
while it was barely overlapping another planchet, and an indent
from that second planchet is clearly visible at the bottom of the
obverse. While this piece is certainly not perfect, it is still supe-
rior to the Miller-Ford example of the variety. Only a very few
better ones are known. Weight 132.4 grains. Listed on page 62
in the "Redbook."
Estimated Value .......................................................$100-UP

1787 Connecticut Miller 39.1-ff.2 Rarity-6 VG7
. Draped
Bust Left. An AUCTOBI/ET LIR variety. Sharpness F12, even
better in some areas, but the planchet has been banged up a
bit and is slightly bent. No corrosion or verdigris. The notable
marks are a rim dent at the bust tip and a planchet void at ET
that obliterates those letters. The date is clear, and the AUC-
TOBI and LIR features are obvious. Mostly glossy light choco-
late brown with slightly lighter reddish steel highpoints from a
delicate cleaning. Weight 113.3 grains. Listed on page 62 in the
"Redbook."
Estimated Value .......................................................$100-UP
36
1787 Connecticut Miller 47-a.3 Rarity-6 AG3
. Draped Bust
Left. Slightly glossy medium brown fading to chocolate in pro-
tected areas. The surfaces are covered with microscopic poros-
ity on all but the highpoints, which are smooth. No verdigris,
planchet defects, or contact marks. Basically just a well worn
early copper. Struck slightly off center to K-11. The date is off
the planchet and much of the legend is unreadable. A rare vari-
ety that is missing from many advanced collections. Both dies
were used solely in this marriage. Weight 132.9 grains. Listed
on page 62 in the "Redbook."
Estimated Value .........................................................$50-UP
37
1788 Connecticut Miller 4.1-K Rarity-5 VG10
. Mailed Bust
Right. Struck over a 1785 Nova Constellatio Crosby 4-D variety.
Sharpness VF20 but much of the planchet displays minor rough-
ness and there is a bend at the rim over the I in AUCTORI.
Slightly glossy dark olive brown with lighter brown toning on the
devices. The dates of the Connecticut (1788) and of the Nova
Constellatio (1785) are complete and clear, and "NOVA" also
shows clearly off the Mailed Bust. This variety is often found
with traces of Nova Constellatio undertype, but seldom do you
find one with both dates clearly visible and enough undertype
remaining to allow a positive attribution of the host coin. Listed
on page 62 in the "Redbook." Weight 103.5 grains.
Estimated Value .......................................................$100-UP
