1783 Nova Constellatio with Small US and Pointed Rays
Crosby 2-B Rarity-1 NGC graded AU58 Brown
. Attractive
glossy dark chocolate brown. The surfaces are smooth and free
of any notable defects. Late die state with tiny lumps from die
rust visible on both sides. Nicely struck on a flawless planchet.

. Glossy medium brown and light
chocolate. Most of the details suggest a higher grade, but minor
swelling in the center of the obverse has caused "US" to be
weak. The only marks are some faint hairline scratches inside
the wreath and a fine scratch through the right top of the first T
in JUSTITIA. The date is bold. Weight 140.6 grains. Listed on

1787 Massachusetts Half Cent Ryder 4-C Rarity-1 F15
.
Sharpness VF30 but the fields and protected areas are covered
with very fine roughness while the highpoints are smooth. No
marks or verdigris, and the eye appeal of this half cent is
decent. Slightly glossy chocolate brown and steel. The date and
legends are complete and strong. Weight 73.6 grains. Listed on
page 59 in the "Redbook."

Choice glossy chocolate brown with lighter brown toning cover-
ing the devices. The surfaces are smooth and this piece offers
outstanding eye appeal for the grade. The only marks are a
couple fine parallel planchet striations over WEALTH, as struck.
The date and legends are complete and clear. Listed on page 59
in the Redbook." Weight 154.6 grains.

1788 Massachusetts Cent Ryder 11-C Rarity-5 PCGS
graded VF20
. Variety with a period following MASSACHU-
SETTS. Slightly glossy dark chocolate brown and steel with
lighter chocolate brown toning on the highpoints. A glass
reveals microscopic roughness in the fields and protected areas
but there is no verdigris. The only mark is a dull dent on the
second M in COMMON. The date and legends are complete and
clear. A decent example of a tough variety. Listed on page 59 in
the "Redbook."

1787 Connecticut Miller 4-L Rarity-1 PCGS graded XF45,
CAC APPROVED
. Mailed Bust Left. Choice glossy medium
brown with chocolate brown toning on the highpoints. Struck on
a smooth, flawless planchet that offers outstanding eye appeal
for the grade. The only notable mark is a light rim bruise over
the first C in CONNEC. Rare EDS, before any trace of the usually
seen "Horn" die flaw that extends up from the bust.
Our grade
is VF35.
Weight 138.0 grains. Listed on page 61 in the "Red-
book."
PCGS population 7; 12 finer, 3 in 50, 1 in 53, 2 in
55, 5 in 58, 1 in 63.

1787 Connecticut Miller 6.1-M Rarity-1 The "Laugh-
ing Head" variety VF35
. Mailed Bust Left. Choice lus-
trous medium brown and light chocolate. A sharp, beautiful
example. The only defect is a shallow planchet lamination
at the dentils off the bust tip, as struck. Struck very slightly
off center to K-2.5 but none of the devices is affected. A
premium example of this very popular "Redbook" variety,
and it could easily justify a higher grade. Weight 109.3
grains. Listed on page 61 in the "Redbook."

1787 Connecticut Miller 16.1-m Rarity-5+ VG10
. Draped
Bust Left. Clipped Planchet. Sharpness VF20 but covered with
uniform fine corrosion. No marks or verdigris, but there is a
straight-edge planchet clip affecting the dentils over CON. No
verdigris. The only marks are a small planchet crack on the rim
at the top of the reverse and a small planchet void in the drap-
ery at the right bottom of the seated figure, both defects as
struck. Struck slightly off center to K-9 leaving the bottom of the
1 off the planchet, but the date and legends remain easily read-
able. Slightly glossy very dark olive and steel with lighter choco-
late toning on the highpoints. Weight 145.3 grains. Listed on
page 62 in the "Redbook."
