. Variety without a stop
following GEORGIVS. Choice lustrous medium brown with
traces of very faded mint color in protected areas on the
obverse. The best identifying mark is a wisp of slightly
darker chocolate brown toning at the I in NIA. A sharply
struck gem example of this halfpenny that was authorized
by the British Crown for use in colonial Virginia. Most likely
from the famous Colonel Cohen Hoard of mint state exam-
ples that was disbursed over the decades beginning in the
early 1870's. Listed on page 45 in the "Redbook."

Attractive glossy chocolate brown and steel. No marks or rough-
ness. Nicely struck with even wear on both sides. Weight 91.0
grains. Listed on page 49 in the "Redbook."

Glossy light to medium chocolate brown. No roughness or verdi-
gris. The only defects are a dent on the nose and some light
contact marks in the field before the portrait. The date is weak
with only the 7 & 6 easily readable but the legends are mostly
clear. Later die state with swelling in the field behind the seated
figure. Weight 156.9 grains. Listed on page 49 in the "Red-
book."

bled P Below Bust F12
. Glossy light chocolate brown fading
to medium chocolate in protected areas. No roughness or verdi-
gris. The only marks are several light rim bruises on the
reverse. The date and legends are clear, and the doubling on
the P under the bust is obvious. Weight 157.8 grains. Listed on
page 49 in the "Redbook."

. Attractive
glossy light chocolate brown. The surfaces are smooth and the
only marks are a spot of darker olive brown toning in the field
behind the head and a fine scratch in the field before the face.
The top of some letters in the legend are off the planchet since
the dies were larger than the planchet and the top edge of the
date is weak. Listed on page 50 in the "Redbook." Weight 78.2
grains.

Metz Mint. Sharpness VF35 but the planchet is very slightly bent
and there are areas of microscopic roughness. No marks or ver-
digris. Rather glossy chocolate brown. Sharply struck showing a
bold date and legends. These were struck in France for use in
their colonies in North America, particularly Canada. Listed on
page 52 in the "Redbook." Weight 81.6 grains.
