NGC graded Proof 68 Ultra Cameo.

APPROVED.
When studying the proof Barber quarter
series, by far, the best produced and attractive issues are
the 1896, 1897 and 1898. A survivor of the final issue, this
Superb Gem proof, is one of the finest survivors among the
735 coins originally struck and demonstrates ample confir-
mation of that proposition. Many of the other survivors of
this delivery are also quite well preserved, suggesting that
much of the mintage found its way into the hands of deal-
ers and collectors at the time rather than the general pub-
lic. Both sides are silky smooth and temptingly close to
literal perfection; there are no distracting blemishes or visi-
ble hairlines what-so-ever. A brilliant, glassy appearance is
also displayed with a profound contrasting quality. A stellar
quality proof type candidate that would serve with distinc-
tion in the finest cabinet.
Pop 14; 12 finer at NGC.

1901-S
.
PCGS graded About Good-3
. Smooth, even wear
with a full rim showing on the obverse. The reverse rim has
worn well into the tops of the legend, as usually happens on
well circulated '01-S quarters. This key date issue is in demand
in all grades from AG to BU. The S mintmark is complete and
clear, as are the digits of the date. Pleasing for the modest
grade. (

1902-O
.
PCGS graded MS-62
. Bright and frosty with just a
hint of natural patina in the crevices of the design. This one
exhibits an especially sharp strike for a New Orleans-mint issue.

1904-O
.
PCGS graded MS-66
. This originally and carefully
preserved Gem is enhanced by stunning copper-gold irides-
cence on the obverse that appears to drift toward the rims. The
reverse exhibits multicolored iridescence including green, gray,
gold, and a hint of crimson at the rim. The overall strike is quite
sharp by New Orleans Mint standards, and only on the stars
along the upper-right obverse border do we see mentionable
softness of detail. Satiny and smooth, a solidly graded Gem
from an issue that is seldom offered any finer than MS-65.

PCGS graded Proof 68.
CAC APPROVED.
A
richly toned specimen with a mixed palette of deep red-
orange, sea-blue, and gold on the obverse; the reverse
exhibits various shades of purple, navy-blue, lilac, old-gold,
and red. The underlying surfaces are deeply mirrored and
essentially perfect with no marks or hairlines. For pedigree
purposes, a couple of dark spots are mentioned at the
upper portions of Liberty's head, however, these hardly
detract from the glowing colorations. A treat to the eye,
especially to those who appreciate vividly toned proofs of
the series. One of only 575 proofs produced, the sixth low-
est proof production in the Barber quarter series. Tied for
finest graded with just one other by PCGS. Housed in an
Old Green Holder.
Pop 2; none finer at PCGS
. Nice rain-
bow toning. (
