PCGS graded Proof 68 Deep Cameo
. Fully bril-
liant with frosty design elements, glittering mirror fields,
and a high sharp wire edge. Virtually as nice as the
moment it came from the dies. It's difficult to imagine that
a nicer specimen could exist. As a pedigree identifier, a tiny
dark spot is above Liberty's cap between stars 8 and 9 on
the obverse. From a scant proof mintage of 590 pieces, one
of the lowest production figures for the design type. By this
year the coin market had reached a recent low, having
been in overdrive during the 1880s. The market would
remain quiet for most of the decade, then revive with vigor
early in the 20th century.
Pop 2; none finer at both ser-
vices.
