1808. Overton-103, Rarity 1
.
PCGS graded AU-55
. A
common die pairing easily distinguished as the left base of the 1
is missing and A and M are solidly joined at the base. Naturally
toned with a combination of steel-gray lilac, and reddish-gold
that deepens to sea-green at the borders. The center of the
reverse is nearly untoned. (
PCGS # 6090
)
Estimated Value ................................................... $900 - 950

1813. Overton 108, Rarity 4.
.
PCGS graded AU-50.
CAC
APPROVED.
The second 1 in the date is the lowest and a large
centering dot is between crossbars 4 and 5. This is a scarcer die
pairing. Both sides feature some peripheral toning, somewhat
heavier on the obverse. (
PCGS # 6103
)
Estimated Value ................................................... $550 - 600

1817. O-111, Rarity 1.

Liberty's ribbon end in the obverse field. Well struck with old
time toning. (

1817, 7 over 3. O-101a, Rarity 2.
.
PCGS graded VF-35
.
This is the common 1817/3 overdate that is available in a wide
range of grades. It is one of this cataloger's favorite overdates
in U.S. coinage due to the extreme clarity of the feature -- the 3
underdigit is clear as little, if any attempt was made to efface it
before production began. This Choice VF example has light gray
surfaces with delicate toning on each side. A couple of trivial
marks on each side are consistent with the grade. (
PCGS #
6111
)
Estimated Value .................................................$900 - 1,000
1376
1818 O-109a Rarity 1
.
PCGS graded AU-58 PQ.
CAC
APPROVED.
The first 1 is higher and wider than 818. Lovely
reddish-golden and russet toning overlays each side. A fantastic
near-Mint example that exhibits abundant luster and superior
eye appeal. (
PCGS # 6113
)
Estimated Value ..............................................$1,500 - 2,000

1820. Square Base, No Knob 2, Large Date. O-106, Rar-

1821. Overton-105, Rarity 1
.
PCGS graded AU-55
. This
single-use reverse is most easily distinguished by the base of A2
being higher than the adjacent base of M in AMERICA. This
specimen is deeply toned with considerable multicolored toning
in the fields. Light wear is apparent over the highpoints of the
design, typical of the assigned grade. (
PCGS # 6128
)
Estimated Value ................................................... $600 - 650

1823. Overton-108, Rarity 2
.
PCGS graded AU-55 PQ.
CAC APPROVED.
This variety shows the 23 larger than the 18
in the date, and the 3 has a very large, broad upper curl. The
reverse has a center dot between crossbars 4 and 5, and the
right side of I is in line with the left side of T. Attractive reddish-
gold toning surrounds the borders on this lightly circulated
piece. (
PCGS # 6131
)
