GOLD QUARTER-RYAL (1465-1466)

Edward IV, Yorkist King, First Reign of 1461-1470

London, Sun mintmark. Light coinage of 1464/5-1470. This scarce coin differs from earlier Quarter-no-

bles mainly by its new obverse, which shows a tressure of 8 arches around the royal shield, with a bold

“E” above and symbolic sun and rose marks to the sides. On a full flan with nearly complete legends,

central images evenly struck and well detailed, with delightful old-gold toning.

S-1966. N-1560. PCGS-graded AU50.
