GOLD HALF-ANGEL (1507-1509)

Henry VII, Tudor King, 1485-1509

London, Pheon (heraldic arrowhead) mintmark on each side. The Latin legend on reverse translates to

mean “Hail Oh Cross Our Only Hope.” Rare. Evenly struck on a broad flan with exceptionally full rim

beading, complete lettering in legends, central devices of St. Michael and the ship all well detailed, with

choice surfaces and pleasing reddish old-gold toning.

SILVER GROAT (1504-1505)

Henry VII, Tudor King, 1485-1509

London, Cross-crosslet mintmark on each side. An elegant example of this classic coin, struck on a full

flan and showing complete legends, a crisp portrait, and lovely old gray patina.

GOLD FINE SOVEREIGN (1526-1544)

Henry VIII, Tudor King, 1509-1547

London. Second coinage of 1526-1544. Crowned, facing, full-length image of the king enthroned, hold-

ing golden orb and scepter, a portcullis at his feet, Lis over Sunburst mintmark; reverse, Tudor shield of

arms at center of full-blown rose, Arrow mintmark. Double saltire stops in legend. Very rare. The largest

coin of this turbulent reign. One of the great treasures of the Tyrant Collection. Superbly detailed and

retaining the full bloom of 16th-century luster, struck on a particularly fine flan. An astounding example

of this fabled coin, perhaps the finest known.
