GOLD NOBLE (1413-1422)
Henry V, Lancastrian King, 1413-1422
Minted at London. Rare. The fabulous portrait on this coin displays a feature not previously seen on
nobles, “sidelocks” or tufts of hair protruding on each side of the king’s face. These were added to later
dies, and their use continued until the reign of Henry VII. An exquisite example of this famous warring
king’s largest gold coin, boldly struck down to the smallest detail on the king’s image, some double
striking on the lower obverse producing the look of an “angry sea”, and wonderful gold toning.
S-1744. N-1373. PCGS-graded MS65.
