BREEN PLATE COIN FOR S-204
Lot 194
1800 S-204 R4 PCGS graded MS61.
Frosty bluish steel brown and gray mixed with medium chocolate brown.
Satiny mint luster covers the fields and protected areas and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The only notable
mark is an amoeba-shaped struck-through caused by a piece of very thin wire or thread at the E in ONE (as
struck). No spots or stains, only a touch of friction on the highest points of the devices. M-LDS, Breen state VI
late. The die if failing badly over RTY and along the rim before the face, and there are clearly defined clashmarks
from dentils at BER. This is the plate coin for the variety in the Breen encyclopedia. Graded AU55 net AU50
and CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #21786. Bland says EF45 and tied for CC#6.
Our grade is AU50+

THE BYRON REED S-208
Lot 195
1800 S-208 R3 PCGS graded VF35.
Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel with traces of lighter brown and
chocolate on both sides. Smooth and attractive with light, even wear and only trivial marks. The best identifying
mark is a tiny planchet flake in the field just off the end of the chin. MDS, Breen state II late. A strong cud break
at TY extends to the rim before the eye but the section of cud over TY shows some dentil clashmarks and is
incomplete. In addition there is a narrow rim cud opposite the chin. Breen says this additional narrow rim cud
occurs after the cud over TY becomes complete (his state IV), but his sequence is incorrect. His state IV cud
occurs prior to his state III, not after. Graded VF20 and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #36322.
Bland has not seen it.
Our grade is VF25
. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS
Secure label.
