Rev. Britannia seated left on globe, with olive branch, spear

and shield, legend around, plain exergue, edge inscribed in

raised letters, NUMMORVM* FAMVLVS* 1690 * Some lus-

tre, mainly on the obverse, some light corrosion spots on

reverse, very rare in this top grade.

portrait of King right (third bust variety) by James Roettier. Leg-

end reads: GVLIELMVS III DEI GRA. Reverse, crowned cruci-

form shields and third harp with scroll front and back. Mint state

with an attractive and deep tone. An unusually well centred and

sharply struck coin with a deep and attractive tone over original

mint luster, and no evidence of the usual hay marking, blank fil-

ing and die imperfections associated with this issue. An out-

standing example.

III. GBA for GRA in obverse legend. Obverse draped laureate

bust right. Reverse crowned numeral denoting value. Struck in

the penultimate year of the monarch' s reign this mint state coin

is not only one of the finest examples of a William III Groat it is

an unlisted error which matches that regularly found on the

threepence! Top grade William Groats are rarer than the six-

pences, shillings, and even halfcrowns.
