1825 O-106 Rarity 3
.
PCGS graded VF-35
. Dark toning.
The date on this scarcer variety has the 5 noticeably recut at
top. Unusual is the fact that most of the shield's horizontal lines
extend left of the shield and some far into the right wing. The
die engraver must have had the shakes. Or poor eyesight.

1826. Overton-105, Rarity 3
.
ANACS graded AU-58
.
Lovely blue and gold toning with sleek luster underlying it all. A
bold impression for the dies reveals exquisite hair curls, full
sharp stars where on the first and ninth ones are ill-defined.
Transferring attention to the reverse, the same boldness is
seen. A most attractive 1826 Bust Half dollar. This year in his-
tory marked several events, two of which have a close relation-
ship. The first is the 50th anniversary of the signing of the
Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The second, the
coincidental deaths of John Adams (second President of the
United States) and Thomas Jefferson (third President) who died
only hours apart on the fiftieth anniversary of their handiwork,
July 4, 1826. Neither was aware of the other man's passing.
Estimated Value ................................................... $500 - 550

1826
.
PCGS graded AU-55
. Well struck with nice old time
toning and extensive luster remaining. We note some light tar-
nish streaks by the eye, possibly caused by impurity in the silver
alloy (a common happenstance in those less technological
sophisticated years). (
PCGS # 6143
)
Estimated Value ................................................... $275 - 300
575
1826. Overton-104, Rarity 3

additional crack starts at the end of the first one just above U
and circles down across the leaves and 50C to the arrowheads.
