Large Cents

1854 N-11 R2 MS60+
. Lustrous light bluish steel brown with
a hint of sea-green in the mix. The satiny mint frost is unbroken
and this cent offers outstanding eye appeal for the grade. A
choice example except for a spot of very fine carbon on the
front edge of the eyeball. This spot is well hidden and is very
easy to overlook, but it counts anyway. MDS, die state b. The
fields are covered with fine roughness from radial die flowlines
caused by die wear. Tied for CC#13 in the Grellman census.

. Lus-
trous light to medium chocolate brown and steel with tiny peeps
of faded mint color showing in protected places on each side.

and the brow lock and a larger spot of reddish chocolate toning
at the curl on the neck are the only notable marks. M-LDS, die
state c, with fine die cracks on the reverse. A small, very shal-
low low spot (caused by debris on the die) covers the jawline
near the earlobe.
Our grade is MS62.

1856 N-6 R1 Upright 5 PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown,
CAC APPROVED
. Lustrous bright original mint red just starting
to mellow to light steel brown on the highpoints of the devices,
at least 70% of the mint color remaining on each side. No spots
or stains. The only defects are a shallow low spot on the neck
and another inside the wreath (both as struck), plus a small
nick between the right top of the first S in STATES and the den-
tils. E-MDS, die state a. The fine die lines of the earliest state
are still visible and microscopic radial die lines are starting to
form in the fields. A beautiful example of a common die variety.

ety.
